I've upgraded to iOS 4: Now what?
You've upgraded your iPhone to iOS 4, and you're anxious to play with all sorts of new and wonderful features. Before you do that, take a few minutes to make sure everything is working as expected. Here's a list of things to confirm. They aren't in any particular order, and not all of them will apply to everyone, but some of them will, especially if you have "restored" your iPhone.1. Launch the phone app and go to the voicemail tab. Make sure that it isn't asking for your PIN. If you're really cautious, you might even call your iPhone and leave yourself a voicemail just to make sure it's working as expected.
Six more easy and necessary steps after the break.
2. Check your passwords for your email accounts and other apps that require password auth, such as Dropbox.
3. Launch the camera. It may need to update its database. You don't want to be stuck waiting for this to happen when you're trying to catch an action shot. After it finishes updating, press the home button to go back to the main screen. That way if the camera crashes you won't have to wait for the database to update. (Trust me on this one.)
4. Check your MobileMe (or ActiveSync) calendars and contacts. Are all of them syncing? Mine did not seem to sync until I launched the calendar and it realized that it needed to fetch them again. (See #2 above 'check your passwords' before this one.)
5. Setup your passcode. iOS 4 lets you choose a "simple passcode" (4 digit PIN) or a more complicated password.
6. If you use MobileMe, go to me.com/find and verify that "Find My iPhone" can find your newly-updated iPhone. If it fails, make sure that location services are enabled as well as push.
7. Check other apps that sync (Simplenote, 1Password, TextExpander, etc) to see if they have current data.

June 24 2010 at 4:48 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHas anyone else had an issue since upgrading to 4.0 with text messaging? Ever since i upgraded it shows i have texts that aren't there or it crashes. It also will say I have a text and it wont actually show up for several minutes or after reboot. I have reinstalled and still have the same problem.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to reinstall OS3 on a 3GS? iOS4 is crap, especially with mail.

June 26 2010 at 4:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAnyone know if you can turn off the goofy icon animation you get when you wake the phone up? It's cute and all but I don't feel like waiting for it every time. I'm on a 3g and it's not exactly smooth and quick.
June 22 2010 at 10:54 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI find that my Motorola SD9 HD Bluetooth headset no longer works with my iPhone. I hope this is something apple fixes and doesn't choose to blame the manufacturer and wash their hands of It. I've tried deleting the profile and reinstalling with no impovement. It does work fine with a Jabra Halo headset well.
