Confirmed: iPhone 4 gives fewer bars for lefties
The video speaks for itself. I held the iPhone 4 in my left hand, and when my skin comes into contact with the antenna, I lost two bars in a few seconds. My hand didn't change position, but I lifted up my hand to remove contact and those bars returned. I haven't tried this in a way that would confirm whether calls could be dropped, but Engadget is reporting it can happen.
Update: MacRumors theorizes that the problem is due to contact with the lower left-hand corner of the phone specifically. Check out their video demonstration here.

I am a left-handed, too. It does not lower my bars at all. I don't hold like a death grip. I hold it just blocking the left gap. When I answer the phone or make a call, it is not blocked at all. My thumb is in the center on the left side.

Because that would simply indicate that they were missing a few additional brain cells. :)
One never knows. I've not seen an on the street test of this so I guess we'll never know.
What I did see was me holding the phone in my left hand for 10 minutes and no dropped bars, no missed calls, etc.
CONFIRMED
interesting word to use. Confirmed by whom?
Well... im lefty but i hold the iPhone with the right hand, because as a lefty, I control the phone with the left hand ;)
So I think the right title is: iPhone gives fewer bars for righties. :D
And remember... Apple is designed for artists, by artists... and the best artists are lefties (da vinci, michaelangelo, etc) ... and probably that is another reason why mac os always had the window buttons on left side... :D :D :D
I have the problem! freakin' annoyin', natural way to hold the phone is palm against the bottom part of the phone, with that it cause's loss of signal. I've wondered from the start why Apple advertised this "bumper", they were not in the iphone casing market before (not much) so the release of this bumper suggests Apple were aware of this flaw and found a fix by selling bumpers!

I can reproduce in my office almost every time but when I go out to the street I cannot.
When I make the connection between the left and bottom antennae it happens every time. If I am careful to only touch the left antenna there is no issue. I can't speak to the issue existing on 3G/3GS or others' experiences thus far, but I am left-handed and this does clearly impact my phone:

I can only reproduce the results of that test at certain times. Right now, I'm holding the phone in my left and have full service. Earlier, I was in a place where reception was less than full and was able to see the reception go down when I held the phone in my hand.
Signal strength has got to have something to do with it...
The reception is bad but what did I expect, really? It is AT&T and Apple....they have yet to figure out how to give consumers good reception and call quality/consistency
