Jason Bateman pulled out of LA Apple Store line
Update: The NY Nightlife Examiner quotes a store employee regarding Bateman's tenure in The Grove store's iPhone 4 line: "T he paparazzi had spotted him first and swarmed him like bees in an angry hive. As he was not able to find cover from this (or he'd lose his spot in line, like anyone else would) we quickly decided that this was unfair to one of our customers and offered to extract him from the frenzy. Inside the store he was given no special treatment. After all, he deserved to be just another customer that day, just like everyone else." While we're waiting for more independent reporting from folks who were present, we apologize for the suggestion that J-Bate was pulled out of line for no reason at all, and we hope he's enjoying his new iPhone.
Obviously with such an sought after item as the newest iPhone, there's going to be a slew of sightings of famous people hoping to get their mitts on one as well. Like Conan O'Brien, for example.
Another celebrity sighting didn't go off as well as the CoCo one did. Jason Bateman stood in line with others at the Apple Store at the Grove in Los Angeles.
If you were one of the folks standing/sitting/laying down in those long lines of your fellow bretheren, waiting to get your hands on a brand-spankin' new iPhone 4, would you accept an offer to be brought to the front of the line? What if it was made a public spectacle? And then you were booed because you were offered it

When I used to go clubbing the manager at one very popular spot saw us heading for the back of the line one night and he called us over to say that WE didn't have to wait. We were regulars who went there all the time, spent lots of money and fit their imagine profile of what "cool" was at that given moment! We never waited again, nor did we pay cover. Some people weren't happy but we didn't care. That's me NOT famous. If I was a celebrity and I was given the chance not to stand in line I'd do the same thing again. Later suckahs!

I don't fault Michael Bluth for the Apple Store employees letting him in...although I do suppose there is the possibility for an advertisement to come of it, so it would be smart to let someone that is seen a lot go ahead and get theirs.
June 28 2010 at 3:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo, is anyone gonna post the follow-up that came out over the weekend, where an Apple Store employee said they pulled him out because the paparazzi was seriously harassing him - making it a far more miserable and unfair experience for him than anyone else standing in line? No?
June 28 2010 at 9:39 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replypics of Bateman posted about the line break were copyrighted by Owen Bieny who is listed as "Director of Paparazzi Operations at WENN Los Angeles". Definitely was an escape from the paps. Bateman never asked to be taken out of line, Apple brought him up so he would not have to deal with photogs.

Jason Bateman isn't ushered to the front of the line because he's famous and the Apple store wants things to go easier on him. Apple brings him to the front of the line to make sure he's seen. There is no better advertising than a celebrity wanting your product so much that they are willing to stand in line themselves. It's free marketing for Apple and free publicity for Jason Bateman.
Give this guy kudos. He undoubtedly has people he could have sent down to stand in line for him.
Even the Woz doesn't cut in line for an Apple launch, at least not with out asking permission. This sounds like anther self entitled righteous prick of a celebrity.
June 26 2010 at 3:18 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHe didn't cut in. Apple employees brought him in early entirely of their own volition. Ultimately, it's better for the lineup anyways.... imagine how many people would show up at the store just to get an autograph/picture once all the tweets/Facebooks/SMS/whatevers got out saying that a celebrity was just standing on the sidewalk for hours on end :P
June 26 2010 at 7:43 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyActually, I'd paid Jason to stand in line for me. It worked out better than expected.
June 26 2010 at 12:25 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI love Jason Bateman. He can do no wrong in my book. The photos show he was just hanging out like everyone else, minding his own biz. Kudos for not being a jerk and trying to get special attention. Boo to the crowd that decided to point out Apple's preferential treatment. I don't get why everyone cheers on the folks that sell their spots or moans about unfair treatment. I am sure he went thru the same frustrating pre-order problems the rest of the world had.
June 25 2010 at 9:57 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI was 103 in the non-preorder line, then some kid walks up to me and says "Want to be number 13?" I was very hesitant at first to give up my spot but followed the kid. Apparently he tried selling his spot for $100 so the Apple reps made him give it to someone else far back in the line. Yes. People were very, VERY angry; especially those who waited out since 7pm the night BEFORE. Still got my iPhone, an hour after they opened too! I don't think anyone should be this lucky.
June 25 2010 at 8:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't agree with line cutting but if someone offered me the opportunity I'd take it. Never going to see anyone else in the queue again. Far more important things to worry about.
