Worst Phone Ever chronicles dropped iPhone calls
I don't know exactly how useful this site is, but I'll let you check it out and decide for yourself. Worst Phone Ever is a site that purports to try and track all of the dropped calls being racked up on Apple's devices and AT&T's service. The idea is that you upload your dropped call log file, then they'll flip through it, and add it to the data they've already compiled. As of this writing, the site has already parsed over 1.5 million calls, and claim that 5.52 percent of them were dropped, costing users over $154,448 (you can see more about how that's all calculated on their FAQ page).
Now, the paranoid in me has to warn you against actually sending them any logfiles -- while the FAQ claims that no "personal or uniquely identifying information" is in the files, they do say they're tying them to your email address, and I find it hard to believe that there aren't at least area codes in there for Apple's information. Their FAQ, again, admits that they're "going to do everything we can" with the data, and I can't really recommend you give them something from your computer under that agreement.
But if nothing else, the site might turn out to be a nice compendium of information on just how many calls AT&T is dropping. If these averages from earlier this year are any indication, it might be just as high as frustrated customers think it is.

Hmmm---any findings based on what one might calculate from the numbers would certainly be suspect statistically; however, it is a specifically selected, exceptionally well-focused sample (mailing list) of potential customers for Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.

June 27 2010 at 2:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI started getting massive numbers of dropped calls two days before I actually picked up my iphone 4 on June 26. (I had a 3G) I think part - but only part - of the problem is a ton of new ATT iphone customers overloading the system.
Right now, I get the left-side issue, but also, connectivity is very degraded compared to a week ago.
Sure, I have a ton of dropped calls in my logs. I also work most of the day in a room at the center of an 90 year old granite building. I don't get radio signals, or Verizon/ATT/Sprint signal in there with any reliability. Perhaps I'm a fanboy for giving ATT a pass on this?
I'm not saying ATT has the best coverage everywhere I go, but I think I have realistic expectations. They certainly could build out better 3G coverage. From Richmond, Va south to Savannah, Ga on I 95, there is very little 3G at all. This is a major interstate highway that spans the entire country along the east coast. It should be covered.
Of course, the complaints about iPhone on ATT have been there from day one. People say they don't lime iPhones for whatever reason. Fine. If you don't like the service, and it is the worst phone ever, get a Droid and shut up. I love my phone. Find one you love as much.
If people are so unhappy about the iphone and AT&T then maybe they should stop using and not sleep in the street just to get their hands on it... it's your choice to use the iphone it's not like someone has gun to your head so if you unhappy instead of making websites and crying about it just STOP using the phone :-) just a thought...

The thing with ATT is, some places its worse than others. In the immediate vicinity of my apartment, I seldom lose a call. In other places, it happens frequently. Nice thing about the iPhone 4 so far is, I've only lost ONE call. ONE. ...and it was in a spot where the coverage is quite poor. .....just sayin'.
I think these guys are just so one sided. What they should do is do every carrier to see how they all compare. That way they would have a complete investigation on if att is really that much different then others. I know I get dropped calls on AT&T but I was on sprint and T-Mobile and had dropped calls on their system as well. I think they all suck some more than others so I would be curious how they all compare. And I have seen personally with Verizon not as a customer but as someone who worked for a company that used verizon and I would see dropped calls all the time.
June 27 2010 at 9:19 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyiPhone 4 has been very bad for me. I got mine Jun24th after waiting in line for 4 hours. Had the ordering process happened properly I would have been able to order online and get it delivered. Thanks ATT for taking 4 hours of my life away.
I thought I would have BETTER reception with the new phone. Unfortunately it is terrible. I had decent service at home with 3GS but the 4 is marginal to NONE. It has been dropping at least 1/2 of my calls and swings back and forth between four bars and No bars while I'm standing in the same spot.
Very Disappointed.

So AT&T dropped calls = iPhone bad? That's really fucking bad causality. I've had an iPhone on Rogers since it came out with maybe one dropped call ever, and I think it was on the other end in a rural area with intermittent service.
