iPhone 4 takes great pictures, breaks up robbery

There are many iPhone 4 photos already populating the Interwebs, but relatively few of those galleries end with law enforcement activity.

Fox & Friends
weekend anchor Clayton Morris (also the host of the Gadgets and Games Web show, where I'm pleased to be an occasional guest) was heading home from his early shift on Sunday, and he decided to avail himself of the fine morning light to snap a few 5 MP shots with the new and improved camera.

He produced a nice gallery of pictures (especially the downstairs shot of the Broadway Apple Store), but the last three are a little bit oddly composed. It kinda looks like a guy running away from something, and that's exactly what it was; Morris happened to walk by a store robbery in progress (!) and snapped a few pictures of the suspect fleeing the scene. He also used his iPhone to call 911 and followed the perp long enough to guide the police in for an arrest.

It's likely that these are the first iPhone 4 photos of a crime -- but if you've got one-of-a-kind iPhone pics to share, let us know in the comments!

I'm not saving the world with my iPhone but I got a pretty neat sunset picture by stitching a few iPhone shots together:

That pic could have been anything to me!

I would have thought, "Non-issue."

I'm pretty sure that's more your loss than his.

On one hand you have one of the best tech presenters on TV, who has many influential and important tech people on his awesome show. On the other hand there's you; some twatty nerd on TUAW

Clayton wins that one I think ;)

Took a nice snapshot of a meat-thief! A guy who stole expensive fillets from the local shop. "Pack tour backpack and run" style. The Shopowner is a very big guy, but he was outrun by this skinny guy... Took a photo as I passed him, emailed the shops owner. Got meself my food paid that day - nice!

Heard that the photo hangs on the wall down there,in the backoffice. The security guard probably got it in his iPhone as well ...

Amazing he wasn't in one of those mysterious NYC dead zones. Actually, it is amazing that he was actually able to get a response from NYPD.

"He also used his iPhone to call 911"! LOL. That just sounds weird to me. Is it so amazing that the phone can make a call that we had to specify that "it" called 911? I'd just like to also note that I used my keyboard to type this message!

And the iPhone didn't stop the crime, a good samaritan did. Let's give credit to where it's due, not to a gadget. Let's just hope the criminals don't try to get revenge though, since they now know who got them arrested.

Would you rather the story was "Clayton takes some pictures of a robbery, then goes for a sit down in the shade somewhere"?

Or would you rather know the facts; that he also called 911.
