Video shot and edited entirely on an iPhone 4

It had to happen eventually. Here's the first (that we know of) movie shot and edited entirely on an iPhone 4. Two years ago we saw a music video that was shot with a jailbroken iPhone and Cycorder. Of course, the iPhone 4 ups the ante with HD video and iMovie for iPhone.

Director Michael Koerbel of Makek Pictures notes that the short took 48 hours to create from start to finish. He's also promised to release a full behind-the-scenes video that will document its production.

And just like that, the iPhone becomes a nice little tool for filmmakers, amateur and pro alike. It's not going to replace real cameras, of course, but you can use it to make something nice, as Koerbel has demonstrated.

That's really cool! I think my new favorite iPhone 4 video is the Tennis Champ. More entertaining at least since it's all acted in slow motion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rV0tzYx8Gk

AMAZING job to all! This is a great selling point to the new iPhone 4. The video is really AMAZING and editing with iMovie looks pretty userfriendly and delivers professional results. Apple should really play up the video and iMovie for the iPhone 4

Thanks for sharing!

My only issues are: no independent volume controls per clip, and no (master) fade in or outs for your sequence..

My experience with iMovie was mostly meh. I edited some video of my birthday party (one of my neighbors showed up with a pony as a surprise, and we live in a very urban area). It really takes much longer to do, and I doubt people will use it for much more than home/vacation movies. The edit I did of my party took over an hour to make, and on Final Cut Pro it probably wouldn't have taken longer than 20 minutes (and I would have had some control over the audio and titles). I could see my mom getting a lot of use out of it, but I found it's shortcomings a bit tiresome, primarily when trying to reach any sort of precision in your cut.

I shot and edited mine last Thursday, June 24! I received my phone on Wednesday and couldn't wait to test the camera and iMovie. It's a video from my visit to Universal Studios.

Although I've noticed that YouTube reduces the quality very significantly, here it is:

WOW, I uploaded the video to Vimeo and there's a huge difference in video quality vs. YouTube.

Sorry for the "me too-me too" but I recorded and edited a complete film myself this past weekend on my iPhone 4, using the iMovie app. I documented it here. Enjoy!

Just goes to show all you need is some lighting and framing know-how and you can make something compelling regardless of your tools. You need a competent filmmaker, not a RED camera. The toys don't matter nearly as much as whose hands they are in.
