Apple's search for wireless antenna engineering talent

Apple is hiring! Can you guess what kind of talent they're after? Wireless antenna engineers, of course.

On June 23rd, just after the Death Grip was discovered by the public, Apple published three listings for iPhone and iPad antenna engineers who can "define and implement antenna system architecture to optimize the radiation performance for wireless portable devices."

Additionally, Apple is looking for two iPhone OTA Wireless Systems Engineers. All of these positions require several years worth of experience and Master's Degrees. Here's a chance to work for Apple, build something cool and keep us from having to wrap our iPhones in bracelets. Good luck to all applicants.

They should have put "Must not have a Master's Degree" since those were the over educated idiots that didn't have enough common sense to get the antenna right the first time!!!

Shouldn't they have done this more than a year ago at least? Next thing you know towns will start to hire firemen while a huge fire is burning down half the town.

You'd think they would hire these folks *before* releasing the fourth generation of one of their flagship products.

This is just terrible news coverage... First of all, this post makes it seem like the job posting at Apple was in reaction to the wireless antennae issue. There's no way at a company like Apple they would decide that they need to hire new engineers, determine the number of engineers needed, and post the job availability within hours to react to this type of an issue. Any sizeable company go through a lot of logistical considerations before posting job listings.

Secondly, this post ignores many other facts, as stated by Appleinsider:

"In addition to the nine antenna-related positions, Apple lists at least 388 open positions related to the iPhone, from Acoustics Engineers to Camera Design Engineers to a Cellular Systems Architect to Cellular Protocol Software Engineers to Embedded Display Driver Engineers to iOS Battery Life Engineers to Analog Sensor Design Engineers, and Bluetooth and WiFi Engineers."

So, is Apple also having camera, cellular radio, display driver, and battery crisis with iPhone 4? Are they hiring 388 people to try to fix it in a week and cover it all up?

This is probably just another round of very normal, regular hiring that they're doing in the process of the next development cycle. To read anything more into it, or suggest that it had something to do with an immediate issue, is absolutely ridiculous.

Many companies in the public eye disguise themselves when looking for talent related to a newsworthy position. I'm surprised Apple didn't do likewise.

Not to sound nitpicky, but why does news seem to appear on this site a day or two AFTER it shows up everywhere else? Is it because Engadget is the money-making older brother that doesn't allow TUAW to post items before they do? Just curious...

My thoughts exactly. I don't want to see TUAW turn into a regurgitation blog... Your editorial posts are the best, but posting old news with no new insight just doesn't seem right.

simple!

just wear your iShirt which has a wireless antennae sewn in the lining, so your whole upper body becomes the antennae!

problem solved! smaller phone!

in one year Apple will sell 40% of US T-shirt sales...
