Nintendo passes on iOS gaming
Quite a few traditional gaming companies have made their way on to the App Store -- even companies like Sega, who've been around the block with its own consoles, have sold some games on Apple's platform. Heck, even Microsoft has created an app for the iPhone. But one holdout so far is Nintendo, and according to company president Satoru Iwata, that's not going to change anytime soon. During a recent investor Q&A, he answered the question of whether the company might ever sell software on another company's hardware by saying that other hardware just isn't good enough. "Other companies don't share Nintendo's values or traditions when it comes to creating devices," he said. "We are absolutely not thinking of doing that."
He was speaking in the abstract of course (the actual question of the App Store wasn't brought up), but it does seem very clear that Nintendo isn't interested in releasing software on anyone else's platform. Until that changes, that means no Super Mario Bros., no Zelda, and no other Nintendo properties on the iPhone.
Of course, there's no shortage of games on the platform, and if you want quality platformers or arcade-style dungeon crawlers, you've probably already got them. But it's too bad that Nintendo is standing so firm -- if you want to play official Nintendo titles, it'll have to be on the DS, not the iPhone.

I love Metroid Prime, and the Legend of Zelda, but I don't ever see myself wanting them for my Mac or iPhone. I had the Nintendo consoles to get myself away from my computer. Now if the company would ever get with the times, and put HDMI on the Wii or whatever future name it may have, then I'll consider buying one.
That right there would probably kill Nintendo off for not keeping up with the latest technology. At least Apple was smart enough to include HDMI on their new Mini.
Screw Nintendo. Jailbreak and play all their games for free. Why is this even news? Why would Nintendo release software on a competing companies hardware? That's like MS releasing Halo on PS3...not going to happen

The investors were right to ask why Nintendo is passing up a VERY big gaming market but I wish Nintendo could have answered more "honestly" and stated that placing high-quality titles on hardware that they compete with is not in their best interests.
Why apple doesn't allow OSX to run on non-apple hardware?

I did it on my Nexus One. It doesn't work well.
I could see something like Nintendogs or Pikmin being easy to transition, but most of their games are designed with a controller in mind, and the iPhone just can't replicate that. Even if Nintendo decided to make games for other people's hardware, their classics might not fit the bill.
I tarded, my second parentheses was supposed to also say iPhone. Quitting caffeine will do this to you. :)

Not that I disagree that these forms of control aren't often terrible, but they're terrible on Nintendo's systems, too. There are also fantastic games on all three.
Eh... Screw 'em. It would be nice to be able to play the vintage Nintendo games on my iPhone... or the iPad, but if Nintendo wants to be this way, let them do it. They will eventually port their games over the iOS when they finally realize that the gaming landscape is changing. In the meantime, I have two vintage Nintendo game units (NES and SNES). I'll enjoy the old games on my TV.

Nintendo can close themselves up and be a little island and STILL sell more hardware than all the phones, music players, and other handheld consoles combined.
If and when that changes, they can "pull a Sega" and become a software company. I think the chances of this happening are just as unlikely as Apple releasing OSX for generic, non-Apple hardware.
I've been hoping Nintendo would release a couple of their SNES games for the iPhone eventually. Apart from Final Fantasy (which we now have) A Link to the Past has been on top of my 'want list' for quite a long time. I can understand why they won't though.
