Steve Jobs on Bill Gates over the years

To say the least, Bill and Steve had had an interesting rivalry over the years. Of course, Bill Gates has retired to charity work leaving Steve Ballmer in charge of Microsoft.

The Huffington Post has put a fun post together of some of Jobs' best quotes about Gates. My favorite is from 2006:

"I have no problem with their (Microsoft's) success, they've earned their success for the most part. I have a problem with the fact that they just make really third-rate products."

As the years have gone on, Jobs has mellowed a bit. In a joint appearance at the All Things Digital Conference in 2007 the two titans joked and laughed with each other.

So take a quick trip down memory lane and see the Steve Jobs fireworks before you fire off your own tonight.

Didn't Bill Gates say "I don't see any reason for a computer to have more then 512k of RAM."

Honestly, people, grow up.

I'm not trying to defend Steve Jobs or anything, but just because we don't publicly hear about Steve Jobs contributing money to charitable causes doesn't mean he isn't doing so. It's very possible he is anonymously giving away his money, which would be quite in line with his private personal life and general avoidance of personal publicity.

Considering he takes most his pay in the form of stock I find it hard to believe he gives much away.

So what is Steve Jobs doing with all his billions? Is Jobs a doer of good deeds yet?

Bill Gates is giving away his fortune by the billions? What is Steve Jobs doing with his fortune? Looks like all he'll be is the richest man in the cemetery.

I don't think he should be talking about third rate products. Just look at the iPhone 4. And he's blatant disrespect for his customers is disgusting. Apple's going done with their elitism.

Bill Gates has always looked down his nose at Steve because Steve is not a programer. After all in Bill Gates's mind if you can't write code how can you run a computer company. As much as I dislike using their products, I work in a 100% MS centric company, I am glad that Bill and Melinda are giving away large sums of their money to help make the world a better place. Second class software, but a first class philanthropist.

Bill is doing charity work because he is trying to make up for the guilt he has for all those years stealing from others and stabbing others in the back:)

Bill Gates: Spends millions helping the environment and sick people.
Steve Jobs: spends time emailing random people and telling them they are too dumb to hold a phone.

The third-rate comment comes from Jobs' interview in Triumph of the Nerds, the PBS miniseries by Bob Cringely. It's from 1996.
