iPad demand still high
Three months after its debut, the iPad continues to sell extremely well, according to a study performed by America's Research Group (ARC). They surveyed 1,000 people and found that 8.4 percent said they already bought an iPad. Plus, another 6.1 percent said they intend to purchase one.The good news for Apple is this: according to these numbers, the number of people who intend to buy is above 70 percent of the number that have already bought. In fact, ARC founder Britt Beemer called it "incredible demand."
More iPad news on the enterprise front: In a separate survey noted today by Apple 2.0/Fortune, ITIC and Sunbelt Software found that 23% of the 600 IT managers they contacted have iPads in hand or on order. They also noted that nearly 80% of the survey respondents expect to allow more users to deploy Macs as enterprise desktops in the next 12 months.
The iPad is arguably the best-selling consumer tablet to date. Apple sold 3 million units in 80 days. Analysts have shared their estimates for Q3 iPad sales, ranging from 2.5 million to 3.75 million. We're eager to hear the official number during Apple's July 20th financial conference call.

If not thanks for reading this :)
Demand should be high. I've got an iPad and it is the best bit of Apple kit I ever bought. The best designed, the best thought through, the most responsive, and just a wonderful user experience from beginning to end.
Before getting it, I admit I was sceptical that it would live up to the hype, but I threw myself in at the deep end and decided to replace my aging MacBook Pro with an iMac plus 3G iPad combination for near the same price as a new 15 inch MBP would have cost me.
And it is fantastic! Now I exclusively carry the iPad, I do presentations, email, and take notes which I guess I did before, but much more conveniently with an instant on, available anywhere, device. Plus many other things that I didn't do before, such as using maps to find my way around the city, reading PDFs (for work) in the book reader (instead of printing them out and carrying them with me as I used to do), and catching up on TV shows I've missed.
I've even found after some practice that I can use the touch keyboard pretty well at nearly my normal typing speed (it has to be in landscape mode - in portrait the keyboard is just too narrow for my fat fingers).
The battery life is phenomenal - I bought an extra USB dock connector to carry with me in case I'm somewhere during the day and need to top it up - but I haven't ever needed to use it yet - even after a long day.
At home I have to fight my daughter for it - she also absolutely loves the iPad, mainly for playing games and watching videos. But she is also artistic and is more and more getting into the brushes, and similar, finger sketch applications - so even for her it is changing from a passive entertainment device to a productive platform.
Anyway, she doesn't know it but I will almost certainly gift her my current iPad when the new model comes out - especially if it has a retina display (that would be utterly incredible), a built-in or snap on camera with FaceTime, and better sync with the cloud.
Sorry to gush but iPad is simply the best that Apple has ever done (in my opinion). There's nothing else like it, and it thoroughly deserves to fly off the shelves like hotcakes.
My sentiments exactly. My wife, who definitely is not into technology (give her a landline phone and she's happy) now lurks near me to finish off what I'm doing so she can have the iPad -- she then gets sweet-talked out of it by our 30-month old granddaughter!
My wife uses the ipad for reading and play games on it -- I never thought I would see that day after 20 years of trying to get her to use a Mac. And the granddaughter just loves to finger-paint on it. In fact, she has cost me more in paid apps than all the other apps I have on the iPad.
how long is the wait guys. I place an order for one last week at my apple store, but still not there yet. Any idea?
July 16 2010 at 1:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI got my iPad during the 80 day 3 million iPads sold cycle, June 1st. I visited my local Best Buy and talked with the Apple rep there. Don't know if this happens to every BB but the rep said that Tuesdays seemed to be the day stock came in and to check BB website to see if it is updated on Tuesday.
After that tidbit of info the next Tuesday I checked and sure enough a couple of models were available. In less then half an hour I had my iPad. Grant it, I wanted a 32GB 3G but the only model they had was a 32 WiFi and 64GB 3G so I had to sink an extra hundred bucks but I got an extra 32GB. The 8, 16GB that arrived in the morning were gone in minutes.
Maybe you can check your local BB Apple rep and ask when have they noticed iPad inventory arriving and with that info, if you see your iPad in stock, I believe they might put a hold on it if you get it that same day in a short time frame, but check and if that happens, cancel your order with Apple.
I didn't get exactly what I wanted but I'm not disappointed with what I ended up with, but I was reading the same "complaint" back then, that you are describing today. "I ordered from Apple but it hasn't arrived."
Well, I didn't order from Apple and, armed with certain knowledge, received my iPad long before those that ordered earlier and are on the list at Apple.
Thanks Rot, will check with BB. I am interested by the 64GB 3G, so may be I will be lucky!

They randomly sampled 1000 people, and there were other questions ( do you pay your kids an allowance - 55% dont).
So not a technical crowd. It is not probably 8.6% of the population, probably 8.6% of the adult population and possibly a measure of how many households have an iPad ( not persons) i.e. someone will say they have an iPad if the house does. That sounds about right in terms of what we know has been sold already.
8.6% say they have an iPad? Right, that has just de-credited the survey, and ARG. The sample of people who took part seem not to be random, and I haven't even read the report yet.
This is a none story, TUAW.
