The iPhone 4 Apple Press Event metaliveblog

Welcome to our iPhone 4 live press conference event! Today we'll be metaliveblogging Apple's iPhone 4 announcements, adding our traditional TUAW twist to the proceedings. Will Steve Jobs offer a $29 bounty or free bumpers to all early iPhone 4 adopters? Or will the iPhone 4 itself be recalled? (We seriously doubt it!) Or is today's announcement about new service providers for those mysterious iPhone3,2 and iPhone3,3 models that Engadget uncovered a while back? Join us as we find out!

Wow, I just read most of the metalive blog and it seems to me that this team was getting a bit testy with each other at times... indeed, Victor seemed quite pissed. There was bile all over my monitor, LOL. I hope you guys can all still be friends after that one.

Good for Apple, they are in the big leagues, I am glad they stood up for themselves.

Is there any any news of an update for 3G owners who are suffering speed issues after updating to iOS4?

I tried asking on the live feed app but it won't register?

I think its reasonable to assume that Apple desires to have both the antenna and the proximity sensor issues resolved before the end of the September deadline of free bumper cases. So my comment would be if you're considering buying an iPhone 4 and are concerned about either issue, then perhaps try to wait until then before buying an iPhone.

My two cents? I'm only having proximity sensor issues with my iPhone 4.

I just wish he would stop referring to his CUSTOMERS as USERS. I've worked in IT customer service for many years. One thing you learn earlier on is that the way you interact with your customers is a reflection of how you feel about them. We're USERS? Hold on. Its my MONEY that keeps his company floating on top of the food chain. We're CUSTOMERS, not USERS. He never once THANKED anyone for their patience or continuing to be their [repeat] CUSTOMERS.

The other thing he doesn't recognize is that when an issue is known to have been reported, many people will chalk it up to, "they already know about it so I don't have to tell them". So the rate of return and the rate of reports to applecare are not truly reflective of the size of the problem. I've seen a change (for the worse) since replacing my 3GS with the iPhone4. But I know the problems are well known and didn't bother wasting my time on hold for AppleCare. Geniuses? My experience has been that they aren't quite 'geniuses'.

Although I've never worked in IT customer service, I do prefer being called a "user" rather than a "customer." It's true, I am both a customer and a user of Apple products. But "user" makes me feel like I'm still valued and part of the whole Apple product experience, even after the sale. "Customer" makes me feel like I'm being talked to by Sales people, who really have little interest in me after the sale. Obviously based on my personal 'feelings' for those two words.

I watched Engadget but I'm commenting here:

Apple nailed it.

no name

"Nailed" as in "There *NO* problem, but to make you shut the F up we will give you a free bumper"

Like Jobs said, "everybody loves a story". His job was to make this over-hyped story go away. I think this announcement will do that.

"Victor Agreda Jr: Free cases, folks. Now I just have to spray my jeans pockets with Teflon :-/"

Gets a free solution and still bitches. No pleasing some entitled assholes.

sorry guys, but engadget is doing a better, cleaner job blogging. Hard to get to the see just the press conference comments without all the other nonsense comments in between here. Please rethink your blogging strategy for live events.

I don't know about everyone else, but I find these metaliveblogs very confusing. You have multiple people posting to the blog, which isn't all that bad -- but when Erica posts what's going on and then later posts almost identical information (citing a different blog as a source) it seems out-of-order and very confusing.

Is there any reason why we're not just getting one linear feed from Erica (with no repeated content clips from other sources)?

Just my $0.02.

You're right, I posted the same not realizing you made the same comments. engadget blogging is the press conference and nothing but the press conference. Easier for reading and continuity in the conversation.

I think that's a good enough reason to never pay for Erica's app store or Cydia apps, right?
