AT&T activation numbers show iPhone 4 dominance
I guess we can take potshots at AT&T all day, but the proof is in the pudding. Or activations, in this case: 3.2 million iPhone activations in Q2, which is 10 times the number for the 3GS the year before. Oblivious to the noise about AT&T's network, a full 27% of those activations are new customers for AT&T, which has to be chafing someone's drawers over at Verizon. Here's hoping AT&T takes the $30.8 billion in revenue and sinks it right back into infrastructure or lowering cost to consumers. Full press release from AT&T here.[via 9to5mac]

I hope AT&T takes that cash and invests in bringing U-verse to my neighborhood. My iPhone gets 3x better speed than my home - and I have the fastest connection available in my neighborhood.

Please ATT one less orange covered building and one more cell tower!

July 22 2010 at 5:12 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI believe that all these new activations are only the result of someone on each account wanting the iphone 4. what i want know is how many activations, either new or renewal, do NOT have an iphone anywhere on the account (anywhere meaning its possible it could be one of a family plan of phones). That will tell you the impact of the iphone.
Personally, i believe the iphone is the only reason many choose att.
there's plenty of business users who use blackberry on at&t.

Isn't the more important number the 63% of activations that *aren't* new customers? These are people who have lived with AT&T's network for at least a year or two and are still signing up for more. I'm not a fan of AT&T, but that seems to show that people don't think the company's problems are that serious, or at least that the iPhone's benefits outweigh them.
I think it has more to do with that all of us have friends on other networks and they complain just as much about their networks or crappy customer service. It's not just AT&T that sucks, they all do.

ah-HAHAHAHAHA. Damn, you almost gave me a hernia with that one. Wooo. Good one, man.
Probably, they'll sink 3.999 billion into really fancy ad campaigns.
