Apple posts Droid X antenna issue video

Just two days after Apple posted a video showing antenna issue on Nokia N97 mini, the company has updated the Smartphone Antenna Performance page with a video showing the Motorola Droid X dropping from three to zero signal bars when held in the "death grip." The Droid X, which runs Google's Android OS, is seen as the greatest rival to Apple's wildly popular iPhone 4, so it's no surprise that Apple has gotten around to showcasing that the Droid X, like most smartphones, suffers from attenuation issues.

Apple has posted the video on both the Smartphone Antenna Performance and YouTube pages.

Apple, get over it. You made a mistake. I have owned an iPhone, a 3G and currently have a MBP, MB, Time Capsule, etc, so I am definitely an Apple fan, but this newest video of the Droid X is crap. I left my iPhone behind because I hated AT&T and owned the original Droid with Verizon. I can honestly say I have NEVER had a signal issue with the original Droid, much less the Droid X when it comes to how I hold the phone. Apple is casting stones when they are the ones living in the glass house. It is ridiculous and childish and making me lose respect for a company I hold in high esteem. Stop pointing fingers and dragging others into YOUR mistake and take responsibility.

Apple could do with a better PR department.

Another setback once again for Apple it will be interesting to see what's next in the news regarding iPhone issues (antenna, manufacturing) and their steps to refund cases won’t make up for the iPhone 4's lack of function over form.

It's a shame to see so many issues with the iPhone 4 after so many people waited for it's release. What's more of a shame is that it seems Apple knew about some of these issues already, such as the problem with reception.

But Apple have created such a loyal following that people may just put up with what issues there are for the sake of owning the latest Apple product.
Personally, I'd be happier with an older iPhone - at least then the issues are all ironed out.

However, it's also interesting to see how much excitement new technologies can bring. New technology and innovation is important for new business, illustrated by entrepreneurship grants and new business competitions like http://www.ukesnc.com.

Guess it's not all bad!

My G1 (the first Android phone) has no problem with "attenuation", no matter how I hold it.

After reading all the comments, it's feels like the old days of Mac vs. PC.

The fact is, there is a flaw. Whether this flaw is a non-issue or not for your particular use, it should be stated as such. I've met many iPhone 4 users who have not suffered from any dropped calls, despite the antenna and AT&T issues. Also, not one of them had a naked iPhone. Honestly, I don't know one person who uses a naked iPhone (of any version).

That being said, it "should" work out of the box and that I don't necessarily agree with, "but everyone else does too" tactic. At the same time, I understand. It would be hard to believe that these companies are not fueling the propaganda against the iPhone at the numbers they're selling this thing. There is a point where Apple does have to defend itself against it competitors and those not stating all the facts. Like I said, I don't agree, but I understand.

For those who want to debate which phone is truly better is completely subjective and should be treated as such. I know many users of multiple platforms and they use their phones based on their needs. They don't have to justify why they use their phones and which brand is on it. The most that should be asked is, how do you like it and why. Not, you bought a crappy phone and mine is better.

How about they make a new video of them holding the phone normally. They looked like they were gripping that phone tight and awkwardly. My fingers don't poke over the edge of my phone by an inch. I want to see a side by side comparison video of them holding the Droid X and the iPhone 4 normally and seeing who looses singal the worst and the quickest.

The beauty of these videos is no sound needed to get the point across. Bravo Apple.

I am glad that Apple is posting these vids. I am tired of the same people posting over and over again that the iphone4 should be recalled. When you look at the stats of how many, or should I say how few, are getting dropped calls there is no way it would get recalled. All cell phones suffer from signal attenuation. This is nothing new. Some people need to just get over it and move on, or you should have been smart and returned the phone if the coverage in your area is not the greatest.

I currently have two iMacs, Mac Mini, Macbook Pro, an iPod Nano, and also the iPhone 3GS. I never had any problem with my phone other than the proximity sensor problem. I planned to upgrade to iPhone 4 in January, and now you tell me if it makes sense for me to upgrade if the reception quality of the new model is so much worse than what I have currently. Does Apple wants people to skip this model, just as many avoided to upgrade to Vista from XP?
