Lost's Apple II up for auction

Maybe you can film your own, though -- the actual Apple II plus from those scenes is being auctioned off later next month in Los Angeles by a group called Profiles in History. If you submit the winning bid, you'll not only get the computer from the set of the show, but also an Apple III monitor to go with it, and a Disc II floppy drive, along with a printout stating "system failure" from the show's big crash of Oceanic 815. The auction page doesn't say if it still works or not (which could be a good thing -- do you really want to punch the numbers in every 108 minutes?), or what the starting bid might be. But it would be cool to own both a piece of Apple history and an object from The Island, wherever that is.

The Apple II computer from the hit show Lost was one of the things that unfortunately wasn't really answered as the series ended. I get...

But... does this one have a bullet hole in it?

It was Apple's only high res (which meant monochrome back then) monitor at the time, and most Monitor ///s were attached to Apple //es (some even with DuoDisks under them). Later there was a Monitor //, which hade a tilt mechanism on it.

What about if the Smoke Monster turned into a computer which Walt then used? If that's not good enough, then you could always look it up on Lostpedia.

I could sit and watch the whole series over and over again just for Jennifer Garner, but at least the story made sense.

but I don't think the show ever provided a reasonable explanation for that one.
----------------
that is because there was no plot on lost, there was "let's make this up as we go" not from some starting point, but from a new start point of each show, it was, "let's make this up as we go"...
so no way to explain not just that, but practically every scene "no reasonable explanation" for just about everything.
it was going to be entertaining when viewers started talking about the "plot" all the way through to the last show and beyond, that was the real entertainment, while the show's creators were sweating knowing they had no real plot even early on.
You should actually have 2 uSci floppy drives. One for the system; one for the program. Back when I started the Apple II lab in my school in 1979, the District's price for the Apple II, two uSci drives, the 9" green monitor, an 80 column card and some basic programs (Apple Write; Apple Draw and some others) was $4530. And we thought that was a really great deal! Oregon Trail from MECC was the first history 'game' I bought for the lab!

July 31 2010 at 8:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat was a very long answer for it to not involve the question that was asked.
"How did Walt get to a computer, and why didn't a chat ever come up any other time?"
I'm pretty sure it was "The Others" baiting Michael to come so that they could get Ben out.
Itâs a âDisk IIâ rather than âdisc.â
Also, the problem with this particular computer is that very bad things happen unless you continually enter a numeric sequence at the prompt.
Yeah, you'd have better luck winning the lottery!
