iOS 4.1 beta 3 now available to developers

Hey, that was a quick week for beta 2, wasn't it? Beta 3 is now available to developers, and according to MacNN it yanks support for Game Center from iPhone 3G's and second-gen iPod touches. Go grab that sucker and let us know what else you find, aside from the proximity sensor fix and additional parental controls for FaceTime and Game Center.

Can someone confirm better support for AVRCP is still there please? Allegedly it was in the first 4.1 beta but I never had that confirmed by anyone. Thanks.
If you don't know what AVRCP is, connect the phone to your car stereo via bluetooth or to bluetooth headphones and see if you can do anything other than play/pause and control volume.

How can you tell which version of the iPod touch do you have?
Different versions of iPhone at least look different or at least 3G / 3GS is marked on the back.

I believe game center was pulled in 4.0.1

"let us know what else you find"

Are you actually soliciting people to break the NDA? Sure sounds like it.

Oh come on now. It's your own choice if you break the NDA or not. Don't try to blame TUAW.

I really hope they move the "Setup Internet Tethering" to another settings screen because you have to wait for it to stop loading before Enabling/Disabling 3G data. And if you toggle 3G a lot, it is quite annoying to wait every time you want to toggle.

Internet tethering is way too buried.

Settings / General / Network / Internet Tethering

You wonder why it doesn't function like when you switch to an app while on a call, so that the glowing band takes you back to the option.

Haven't noticed anything new or different here. The baseband firmware has remained the same from B2 (which was an update from 4.0.1).

As a iPhone 3G user, I'm curious to see what it does for speed/memory usage.

Well, it looks like the last beta did show improvement: http://thenextweb.com/apple/2010/07/27/does-ios4-1-fix-slow-iphone3g-units-yes/

Here's hoping that it all stays in the final version, and that it's released soon.

Any hint of a fix for the proximity sensor?

It's still too early to tell for sure. I'm using it now, but you also have to keep in mind that there are TONS of variables that caused the problems originally, including shade of light around you, etc.
I really hope that Proximity Sensor is back to the way it used to be by the final 4.1, that's for sure.
