Guy moving to New York wants a roomie who doesn't have an iPhone
An ad posted to Craigslist yesterday is from an open-minded sort of guy who wants a roommate for an apartment in Soho. Sounds typical, right? Here's the catch: He insists that prospective roommates not have an iPhone or an iPad.The ad states that "I refuse to live with anyone that has sold their immortal soul to Steve Jobs." He's also looking for a guy with Starcraft II experience, and wants any potential live-ins to post a link to their battle.net profile and to prove to him that they don't own an iPhone.
The New York Observer found the guy, Vince Thomas, and he said he currently lives with another fellow who is a Mac fan, and Vince says he "just can't take it anymore." Vince has a Droid phone from Motorola, and apparently he'd rather talk about that instead.
Vince has a point. Some of us love our iPhones. In social situations I don't bring it up unless someone asks. I'm even feeling a bit guilty about the 'Sent from my iPhone' tag on my mail. If I write Vince I'll be sure to change it to 'Sent from my wonderful Droid, which is so much better than the iPhone I ditched.'
On the other hand, I've been around a few Droid owners, and let me tell you, that's no picnic either. Good luck Vince. May you find a roommate just like you.

This guy has done potential roommates a huge favor by being so open about what a tool he might be.

A "professional" male moving to Manhattan wanting to live in a "happening" place, and then puts that he wants a Starcraft playing roommate. Sounds to me like he needs to grow up first before he starts making demands on whatever.
Who knows what else he'll start bitching about if iPhones bother him.
Yeah he sounds like he's looking for a soulmate rather than a flatmate but then again it seems that he's been traumatized by his iPhone yapping flatmate. Some people like to go on and on about their possessions, where they have been what they are doing hense all this tweeting and facebooking and yapping about this gadget and that gadget. Its not just iPhoners... I have a friend that goes on and on about the latest and greatest Droid he was telling me about it before it even came out... he still goes on and on about how many apps and this and that. I'm like my iPhone does what I need it to do and I don't have time for all those apps there. Then there is my other friend with the new iPhone 4... first thing she does after she got one was to announce its presense. She had the original iPhone I told her to go get a case before it started dropping calls still no case... WHATEVER!

It's just that they feel really special if they resist pop culture and make their own trend. These are the same people who tell everyone that a popular movie sucks cause it sold out to "the man"
Bunch of wannabe hippy-nerd assholes
Well I guess I'm out. lol. But really, whether someone is a complete Apple fan or despises Apple, both are equally annoying. While I do sway towards an Apple product fan, I really dislike the company and Steve Jobs.
August 07 2010 at 12:10 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell, I'm a tech geek and a big ass nerd (not that I have a big ass, it's quite small actually) and I think my wife feels like that guy most of the time. I love reading about tech and gadgets, I love spending time reading reviews, watching unboxings and buying stuff.
I talk with my wife about a lot of these things and before we moved in togeather, her only computer were an old 486, and this were back in 2002 so it' THAT long ago.
She does not like computers or gadgets, actually, she hates it. She uses computers for the normal stuff, facebook, email, news and such but nothing more. Every time I buy a new gadget she just watches me use it for a week or two before she sais "how do this crap work then?" and tries to figure it out.
I could talk less about gadgets with her but then I would not say much at all =) and I've learned not to push her into my new gadgets and let her start using it in her own time.
Dude, don't come to NYC and especially not SOHO!! Is he crazy? LOL. Everyone in SOHO has an iPhone or iPad, that is one of the most expensive places in NYC and it is right next to Chelsea! He really doesn't know NYC. He should move to BROOKLYN! But, wait...They are being invaded by iPhones and iPads too! Dude, stay in the small town you are in now, coming to NYC is a bad move. LOL. If you come to SOHO you will be asked to leave! We don't need your kind in SOHO, Tribeca or anywhere in the Village!
HAHA!
This is the first thing I do when I have to reconfigure my iPhone : change the signature to "Sent from MobileMail".

That is not to say that, if asked, I won't give my opinion and recommendations, but I do not advertise my preferences or dislikes of one product over another. I am not defined by what I own.
