Rage demo'd at 60 fps on iPhone, id games on sale

QuakeCon is going down this weekend in AustinDallas, Texas -- the annual celebration of everything id Software (makers of Quake and Doom, among a few other classic PC titles) features tournaments and panels on some of the hottest PC games around. But there's already been one big Apple announcement: John Carmack has demonstrated id's newest game, Rage, running at a full 60 frames per second on the iPhone.

We first heard of this game at QuakeCon a couple of years ago, and Carmack has always said that making sure it ran on the Mac would be a priority, but it looks like he's delivered the goods. The demo was run on an iPhone 4, but Carmack said it worked great on the iPad as well. Carmack said the iPhone version would be out sometime this year, before the full version of Rage arrives on consoles and PC.

Oh, and icing on the cake? All of id's iPhone titles are on sale during the show this weekend -- Doom II RPG is down to just 99 cents, along with Wolfenstein 3D. Doom Classic and Doom Resurrection are US $1.99, down from the usual price of $6.99. If you're in AustinDallas, don't forget that QuakeCon is free and open to the public as well. All hail the great id!

Can't wait I already have archetype so seeing rage will be great I still would rather have fallout but rage is a great idea also the fact you continued to cross out Austin was slowly killing me that it won't be local...

I think the latest NOVA has better graphics than the PSP. I purchased it yesterday and I was baffled. Gyro rocks in FPS games!

Too bad that id Software pulled their games off the Mexican iTunes Store... I was left in the cold unable to update Wolf 3D :(

I have to say, I am extremely impressed that this is coming out of the iPhone. Most games on the iPhone now usually fall in the middle of the DS and PSP can do. This is a REAL gamechanger, especially since this surpasses the PSP quite abit and might rival the 3DS.

I just hope iPhone games start using this technology very soon. However, games using this technology might be more expensive than your average iPhone game, probably around $20-15 but if their THIS good looking and as well made as most console games, I am sure most people will pay it.

This might really make Apple think very seriously about gaming now. Though Apple is already taking it seriously, that's why their trying to focus quite abit on their "Game Center" (though it didn't make it in 4.0), trying to make it like a small Xbox Live/PSN style network for achievements, friends, etc. I just hope too they use it as a central network for people to play online on iPhone games in the future...
