Survey: iPad a preferred leisure device
This week, copywriting firm Cooper Murphy Webb has confirmed what's been true in my house for weeks: the iPad is beating out television as a preferred leisure device. In a survey of 1,034 iPad owners in the UK, Cooper Murphy Webb found that 24% of respondents reported using their iPads as their primary entertainment device. The television came in at 19%, while 22% reported using their mobile phones for entertainment and 2% listed the ever popular "other."
Mathematicians among us will notice that those numbers don't add up to 100%. That's because the computer still tops the list at 33%. These numbers are similar to what happens in my household. My wife and I typically go for the iPad first during our evening leisure time, the computer next and the TV last.

I just spent 3 weeks in Japan travelling with my (JB'd) iPad, connecting a 750gb HDD to it... 3 weeks with a Canon 7D and a NON JB'd iPad would not of made it through the 3 weeks due to the storage constraints...
My 3 week holiday set up was - iPad + 750gb 2.5" WD HDD + Canon 7D camera + Split USB Cable. It sure beats lugging around a notebook computer.
My iPad is the device I take where I can't be arsed lugging around a larger computer.
It's very rare for me (even before my iPad) to watch TV for the sake of watching TV. It's sometimes on in the background whilst I use my iPad or Computer, the only time I actually give my full attention to the TV is when I've fired up the Playstation. ( I think that might be the 2% other, video games )
To dig my TVs grave even deeper, if I want to watch a show I just watch it via the Internet on, you guessed it, my iPad! It's so nice to sit in bed watching a quick show on iPlayer before going to sleep.

And they say romance is dead?
But you still can't cook on your iPad....until now!

Netflix on the iPad has replaced TV for me (actually getting rid of my TV during the analog / digital transition was the motivator). Good lord Ken Burns series and on-demand video is such a time-suck, I have to ration myself to just a couple nights a week or I'd get nothing done.
