Time Warner Cable entering the iPhone app game

TWC appI've been a Verizon FiOS subscriber since the day it rolled out in my neighborhood, and I couldn't be happier (my bank account's demeanor is another story). Actually, I take that back, because I got a tad bit happier when the cable company released an official iPhone app that allows for DVR scheduling and management. Joy!

If you're a Comcast subscriber, there's a similar app available. And, coming soon, Time Warner Cable will be rolling out their own answer to the iOS app scheduling game. Just as with the Verizon and Comcast apps, you'll reportedly be able to manage your DVR recordings, view TV schedules and setup recordings from afar.

What the Verizon and Comcast apps do not have is the ability to view your recordings on your device, which, reportedly, could be a possibility with the TWC app. Imagine watching part of a recorded program on your iPad, then pick up later where you left off at home.

Check out the YouTube video after the jump, which shows off a glimpse of a prototype of the app.

What I want is something like that for Windows media center. Is there anything like that?

Remote viewing of TWC protected content is so far in the distance, that when it finally becomes available, the iPad will be antiquated.

The Comcast app is just as broken and unusable as the boxes they force their customers to use.

Hopefully this Time Warner app actually works, their boxes are using the same software as Comcast, big difference is that they actually work.

When is TiVo going to get on the freakin' ball and make a decent iOS scheduling app?

AT&T U-verse has had an app like this for quite some time although it was mostly crap until the latest update. Now it actually works fairly fast and consistently. Also, they added video downloads, but left the app for iOS 3.x and so the slow downloads get cut off when your iPhone goes to sleep. They should make it iOS 4 so the download can finish in the background. The video quality is great, almost too good (and too large) for the application. Now they need it so you can view your own DVR recording streamed to the app. That means they would need to load a WinCE streaming app into their DVRs.

since it's from TWC, i'm sure the app will be laggy and buggy and an epic fail.

and they'll figure out a way to charge you another monthly fee for using it.

Comcast announced an iPad app for scheduling DVR recordings back in May. It may be a web app and last I read, still in development.

The current Comcast iPhone app can be used to schedule DVR recordings in select markets but the overall app is incredibly slow.

CTO and CEO look like typical overpaid dead weight.

It's funny you mentioned that. Those two never talked the entire time. It was the technology guy, and the ad guy. What's scary is those two make the decisions and probably don't have a clue what's going on.

My wife also noticed that too and has been in that situation. Having to demonstrate features of a website to CEO types who either feigned interest or just outright fell asleep.

lol @ GLacy!

anyways, I think they should be focusing on making their service work in general before exploring these options. Apple started with the computer, then moved on to the iPods. Time Warner Cable needs to work on their Cable before they move onto iPhads. I do not mind if they try to integrate along the way, but perhaps the main focus should be providing decent service at an affordable price.

>It's an iPhone app. He was speculating that there may be an iPad version as well. Try keep up!<

Let me see, the guys in the video are all talking about an iPad app and one of them is using it on an iPad. So where exactly is there any mention of a Time Warner iPhone app?
The iPhone app mentioned is for the author's Verizon FIOS account.
Maybe you keep up.
