No jailbreak for you, 4.0.2
The Dev-Team has announced that there will be no jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 or 3.2.2. It stands to reason, as the release did absolutely nothing other than patch the security hole that
The Dev-Team explains that escalating the "cat and mouse game" doesn't benefit the users, so they're letting this one ride. That's reasonable, too, as I reminisce about radar detectors, laser detectors and the cat and mouse game that happened between lead-foot citizens and law enforcement. No one really benefited, other than the electronics manufacturers who fuel that battle.
It's noted that any future jailbreak for the upcoming 4.1 firmware update might be backwards-compatible with 4.0.2, but don't pin any hopes on it. If you're interested in keeping your firmware up-to-date with the latest goodness, you probably wouldn't be considering that, anyway. Right?

I have already updated to the 4.0.2 and I want to jailbreak it. But on www.jailbreakme.com it says version too new and I was wondering if there will be one for it. I really want to jailbreak it :(

Also custom tones makes sense.
I take that back. I'd still jailbreak to be able to use myFi which I paid for and can no longer use on my new ip4!
I haven't used any stolen apps on my JB 3gs and have no intent to. I get pissed when I pay for a crappy app but it doesn't justify taking good apps without compensating the guy who spent time on the code. And regardless of where you fall on this argument (free/paid/stolen) I think most of us can agree that the posts from companies saying they have a 50% theft rate are pure BS.
I just don't get people who bitch about 99 cent apps (or them being crappy since you get what you pay for). If you're that poor how do you afford your cell phone bill? I paid $20 for MyWi and don't regret it a bit even though Rock is totally bug ridden.
4.0.2 isn't worth it and I'll wait for the JB 4.1.0 whenever it's released.
I'm 99.9% sure that one of the older redsn0w versions can break 4.0.2. It simply executes thru a dif exploit... Oops... Maybe I should have kept that under my hat...
August 26 2010 at 10:36 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo if you want to jailbreak your new phone, you have to use a version of iOS with a well-publicized gaping security hole. No thanks.
August 26 2010 at 4:53 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNot sure what this is about. There are plenty of sites online that walk you through using the current version of redsn0w to jailbreak 4.0.2. You just have to have the phone already updated to 4.0.2 and point redsn0w to a copy of 4.0 when you start it. Did this on my old 3G that I gave to my mom. Since baseband didn't change, current version of ultrasn0w worked fine as well.

This jail break didn't last very long so owners of new iphone 4 ( and those upgrading to iphone 4) didn't have much chance to jail break. So I think this was to address the inquires around the net from lots of folks that hadn't received their iphone 4 yet.
August 26 2010 at 4:32 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThey put new security measures in ace as of the 3GS that prevent this. So yes, on a 3G you're still golden to jailbreak on 4.0.2, but not on a 3GS or 4.
August 26 2010 at 5:29 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo is there a way to revert back to 4.0.1 if you currently have 4.0.2?
August 26 2010 at 4:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNot on a 3GS or iPhone 4 if you didn't save your SHSH blobs w/ a tool like TinyUmbrella. If you have a 3G I think you MAY still be ok (not sure).

this sounds like the wii scene, except with less illegality to it. Nintendo always releases updates to kill homebrew, but sometimes the people behind the hacking fix it, and sometimes they don't. It's especially annoying when an update that does nothing more than break hacks is released. Only difference with jailbreaking is that apps don't require you to update, unlike some wii games, presumably Metroid Other M
