Found Footage: Sharp says 'sushi please' on iPad

Lots of visual content, quick transactions, and hungry customers: that's what Sharp has in mind with this proof of concept sushi menu application for iPad. Rather than putting diners through the chore of tracking down their favorite rolls and sashimi in a multipage laminated paper menu, the app puts dishes front and center.

The iPad app isn't for sale yet, although the DigInfo report quotes Sharp saying it may be commercialized if there's interest; it might also be ported to Sharp-built devices. If it does get rolled out, it would be included as an integrated piece of Sharp's POS system for restaurants, including billing and order management tools. We've seen systems like this tested before, but as far as we've heard, no one's actually using iPads in real-life restaurants and at least one Australian tapas joint has already gotten on the bandwagon. If you've seen a virtual menu in action, let us know in the comments.

What a cluttered and nasty set up. It's better once you get past the first screen but that one screen is just awful.

These types of tablet based systems are made for a drop down, drilling in type system. Start with the biggest category and work your way through. They could even score big (at least in the States where not everyone is a sushi genius) with a system that allows a person to put in preferences and get recommendations.

As for the snarky comments
1. There are fully encompassing cases that still allow for touch control for the ipods and iphones. If someone hasn't made one for the ipad I'm sure there's a case company in Asia that would love to do it and market it to restaurants, hospitals etc for a nice profit
2. Lock it in a mount or have a hostess bring it and then carry it away when the food arrives.

Cool!....but that is one expensive menu. Not to mention you'll need some security team to keep people from running of this them :/

So, if you guys eat sushi like me and my buddies, it wont be long before that sushi menu has a thick coating of soy sauce and fish guts. Will that void the warranty?

Sorry, its no longer called sushi - that name has been trademarked by Apple.

It must now be referred to by the brand name iSush.
