SAP deploying 1000 iPads to employees, more on the way
SAP has embraced its devotion to mobile solutions by distributing 1,000 iPads to employees with more to come. ZDNet reports that SAP's CIO Oliver Bussmann shared news of the iPad program late last week on Twitter.Bussmann notes that the iPads are ready for duty. Each is equipped with access to Citrix tools via a virtual private network (VPN) and email for participating employees. Additionally, the users will pilot the Mobile Sales for SAP CRM app for iOS. The iPads have been spread across SAP employees around the world.
We can assume this is just the beginning of the program, as Bussmann took to Twitter once again to suggest that there's "more to come." Best of luck to SAP in their new initiative.

Considering SAP does A LOT of business with Apple on the retail side re: logistics and resource planning, this is hardly surprising. Apple Retail is built on an SAP base.

It's uses/apps like this that will promote the "iPad vision" of the tablet as a platform in its own right.
Simply stated: It's the best [known] way of doing certain things...
Think what VisiCalc did for the Apple ][.
At one customer I showed them SAP was usable using my iPa and a remote desktop tool about two months ago. They were flabbergasted. I'm pretty sure they'll be buying some iPads soon. Not just as an eyecatcher but also because of the convenience on exhibits etc.

They would probably never do it, but it would be interesting to find out the number of bulk sales Apple has been receiving for the iPad.
