A gallery of iOS 4.1 update screenshots

If you're stuck at work and can't update your iPhone or iPod touch to iOS 4.1 yet, feast your eyes on the gallery below. I was able to take some screenshots of the notes for the update as well as get some shots of Game Center, the HD YouTube movie upload capability, and the new HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography setting in the Photo app.

As noted in the gallery titles, I wasn't able to actually find any Game Center games -- the button in the Game Center app shows nothing just yet. That's not a good sign for the first day. At least we can all get signed up and befriend each other. We'll keep an eye out for any games that get GC-enabled as soon as they're ready.

I plan on tinkering with the HDR photography quite a bit over the next few days. I could have used it during a short trip out of town this last weekend. It's also nice to see that the HD YouTube movie upload is working well. Be sure to let TUAW and our readers know what you like the most or least about this update by leaving a comment.

None of the new features of 4.1 work on iPhone 3Gs except Game Center. Wonderful. My phone is only one year old and no longer supported by Apple. Just great.

please STOP adding applications that can't be deleted or hidden apple! I don't game with my phone except on rare travel occasions and therefore don't need your gamecenter app stuck in my thing.

yes I'm aware I can make a junk directory, but I'd rather be able to just disable (equivalent to third party delete) them in settings.

Minor update detail I noticed. In apple's Mail app, when you're looking at an individual message, the trash icon at the bottom of the screen has officially been changed to an 'archive' icon. The button has already been acting as an archive button, so it's nice to see that they updated the icon to reflect that. -Lawrence
P. S. I'm loving HDR photos so far!

how do i get rid of game center?

and i just had the same proximity issue i DIDN'T have with 4.01--in the middle of a call with my wife when, suddenly, i'm on speakerphone.

also--may be my imagination--but it seems that everything opens just the tiniest bit slower than it did under 4.01.

i pray i'm wrong because, although i'm on my new iphone 4 now, i still have traumatic memories of running 4.01/02 on my old 3g.

Anyone else notice that over-the-air Notes syncing has been removed in iOS 4.1 (Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > {Any mail account})?

Glad to see that GameCenter is finally up and (kinda) running. Just waiting now for some game support.

To assist with the "befriend each other" part of the post, I'll just leave my GameCenter nickname here: The Incendiary :)

Has anyone else updated only to find the HDR feature isn't there? Nothing in settings as per screen shot, no extra options at the top of the screen... nothing. I'm definitely on 4.1 - says so in iTunes.

If anyone is interested, here's some HDR test shots I made over the weekend with iOS 4.1:

In the Central Park example, HDR made the sky blue (instead of overexposed white) without making the foreground dark. In the Met Museum photo, you can actually see what the guy is drawing (again: without making the rest of the photo too dark).

I'm impressed by how well it works. It may not be 'perfect', but if you've ever tried to take a photo where part of it is overexposed (and tried to 'reexpose' by tapping another area - only to make it way too dark), you'll understand how this new feature makes that so much easier.
