Found Footage: iPod touch 4G goes head to head with iPhone 4
A site called Letem Svetem Applem has put together some performance comparison videos with the iPhone 4 and the new iPod touch, and the results may surprise you. In the startup speed test, the iPad actually beat all of the other iDevices, and the new iPod touch barely beats the iPhone 4 (but all of them were faster than last year's iPhone 3GS, so your upgrade was not in vain). The iPod touch's camera looks slightly darker than the iPhone 4's, and perhaps most interesting, the displays of the iPhone 4 and iPod touch look pretty different. The Retina Display on the iPod touch looks just as sharp, but without the in-plane switching tech found on the iPhone and the iPad, the sides of the display are slightly muddier.
Some of the YouTube comments on the speed video claim that if your iPhone or iPad is stuffed with music, documents, or apps, the speed will be affected, but I'm not sure how much of a factor that actually plays on startup (not to mention that we're talking seconds here -- not nearly enough to judge a purchase by). But Apple's claim that the iPod touch is sporting the same Retina Display as the iPhone appears to be missing the mark a bit. Watch all of the comparison videos right after the break below.

What most of you seem to not understand is the pictures from a 1MEG camera can actually be a lot better than pictures from a 5 meg camera IF both pictures are 960x720. I can't stress this following statement enough; MEGAPIXELS AFFECT THE SIZE OF THE PHOTO MORE THAN THE CLARITY OF THE PHOTO... More megapixels only allow you to make the image LARGER without distorting it. You can have a 10MP camera with horrible quality. And you can have a 1MP camera with amazing clarity. 960x720 is a rather large image. For over 90% of people taking pictures, the size of the picture in the ipod touch is more than enough.
Actually for the majority of people, the Ipod touch would actually be a CONVENIENCE to you because you won't have to resize your pictures to make them smaller to upload them to facebook.

The uber-blurry video comparing the retina displays was completely worthless. I don't see how any judgement could be made from it.

So in your world, 26.12 seconds is faster than 25.68 seconds. Do magnets work?
You should have watched the video before complaining ..

It'd probably help if you actually WATCHED the video. You're just commenting on the picture of the video, but that picture is from somewhere in the middle of the video and not from the end.
How can you tell the device is jailbroken?
And about the second comment .. I think the videos are not related to each other .. so the iPhone4 that was used to record the video comparison probably isn't the one used in the speed test anyways.
T.
In the start up vid the pixelation that accurs at the top left of the screen indicates it's jailbroken it's a side effect of jailbreakme and the obvious in the screen comparision you can clearly see the mywi icon

Thanks
Any thought that the iPad loaded faster because it doesn't have iOS4 on it?

September 15 2010 at 7:06 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNot to mention since it's jailbroken it's not on 4.1 which has major iOS changes including HDR for images along with other software updates to the camera app.

Could be, but more important, the iPhone has (probably kernel) extensions to load which the iPod doesn't have to load. For example, edge and 3g service, sim loading, etcetera.
Is it me or is the iPod Touch camera look better? I wonder if the iPhone 4 is running 4.1
