Rumor: Apple working on parts for iPad 2

Here's a fun rumor to give you something to dream about this weekend. Digitimes is reporting that Apple is on the hunt for parts for the iPad 2. The company is reportedly in the validation stage with a few suppliers for touch-based displays and reinforced glass, prepping production on a second generation iPad for a launch in early 2011.

That's all we've got -- there's no details on what new features the iPad might have (although a camera would be an excellent guess) or any other way it might differ from the current model, but it looks like most of the speculation has been on target so far. There's still quite a while to wait (and honestly, I'd still recommend buying an iPad if you want one right now -- next year is still a ways away, and 4.2 will make even the "old" units seem new again), but there's almost no doubt another iPad is going to happen next year.

i intend to buy one after christmas, should i wait for the annoucement of the 2nd gen ipad? , the cameras are not a thing i care about(the ipad is not something i would take with me everywhere so i dont need a camera in it), nor facetime (i dont know anybody who has a facetime enabled device at the moment) the only thing im interested in waiting for if they increase the capacity 16gb for 499 is pricey

Retina display resolution would probably crazy expensive.
The dpi from the retina is extreme and not necessary for making
an improvement in viewing quality.
Even though I like the ipad I found the resolution to be a little
on the low side. The text when viewing was a bit too fluffy for reading.

I havent measured but I would assume the iphone4 has a dpi that's about3-4 times higher than the ipads.

Only a small step up or 2 times increase in dpi would make a significant
impression in text clarity.

Apple never makes their products future-proof, so don't expect 1GB of ram, apple only makes their product good enough so that they function perfectly when they get released, but not good enough as to work that perfect 2 years down the line because why would people upgrade then right ? Just look at their other iOS devices.

ipod touch 1 - 128MB
ipod touch 2g- 128MB
ipod touch 3g- 128/256MB
Ipod touch 4g-256MB

iphone - 128
iphone3g -128
iphone3gs-256
iphone 4 - 512

only double-ups, so the jump from 256MB to 1024MB is not very likely

i expect the next ipad version only to be an ipad-done-right version of the previous one, so 512(768 at best) of ram for proper multitasking, front facing camera and of course an iOS to go with it, maybe a small cpu upgrade(tiny bump in frequency), a very small one if any, forget about dual core

expect bigger upgrade with the third version of their device

I'm waiting. An iPad without a front facing camera just isn't enough to justify the purchase. The front face camera should allow me to have my perviously desk based conference calls anywhere. I am looking forward (no pun intended) to the next step!

Apple's 1Q11 starts in 2 weeks (Oct1). From a calendar (not a product) perspective, 2011 is sooner than later.

Retina display won't happen. To push that many pixels would destroy performance and battery life.

Rear camera won't happen. Too large for point and shoot or videos.

FaceTime camera WILL happen. IPod Touch and the iPhone have it. Expect to see the iPad get it as well as an update to iChat to include FaceTime.

Look for either a dual core 1GHz processor or a 2GHz single core processor upgrade. A 2GHz dual core is possible but unlikely.

Look for a bump in RAM to 512MB or 1GB. I expect to see 1GB of RAM.

Storage capacity will also likely see a bump to 128GB. The iPhone and iPod Touch will also likely get bumped to 64GB and 128GB respectively.

With AT&T and Verizon positioned to launch their 4G LTE networks next year, look for yet another unlocked model but this time compatible with the new Verizon network as well. It will also have 3G service from AT&T (but not Verizon as their 3G utilizes the CDMA standard).

In iOS 5 look for widgets and an updated approach to multitasking on the iPad (similar to Exposé).

Okay, the only thing you got right was the bump in RAM and storage...
