No Comment: Just what do you think of this decal, Dave?

This MacBook decal is great, and it looks like it would work well on your iPad, too -- though you might not get that glowing effect that makes it so awesome. We've seen quite a few fun decals similar to this before, including some specifically for the iPad, some for the iPhone, and even some other great geeky ones.
But none have made such a statement about the ubiquity of computers lately, so we'll just post this one right here under No Comment. Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do ...

That was in the book and I enjoyed it. Gives one something to contemplate rather than just a story. It tied in with the monolith and the inspiration to begin using tools by the cavemen. What was wrong with it in your opinion?

October 05 2010 at 6:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply2001 is still my favorite sci-fi movie, and it holds up amazingly well considering its age. No, I'll never get rid of it. Unfortunately, this decal was sold out over a day ago. Rats.

Best sci-fi movie ever. NASA based its playbook on it for 20 years. Watch it again. It holds up.
@Sean:
Thanks for debunking that myth about IBM-HAL. I had heard that a while ago and assumed it to be true, but I just googled it and you are absolutely correct. I learned something on TUAW!
How can one tire of 2001?? I especially love the scene where the ape throws up a bonehead and the scene cuts to a spaceship. Classic.

Stick it up your gazoobee!
I love those killer computer names. I named my previous PC Hal and it made regular attempts on my life. I have since gotten a netbook which I named Cameron, and my desktop's name is Cromarte.. Sometimes I do think they have a mind of their own. Was it bad of me to set my wireless SSID as Skynet?

That's not right. HAL was named after IBM.
It was not named after IBM - as noted in the book and mentioned by the author. It's an abbreviation of Heuristic ALgorithm.

"Although it is often conjectured that the name HAL was based on a one-letter shift from the name IBM, this has been denied by both Clarke and 2001 director Stanley Kubrick" (Wikipedia)
