iOS 4.2 SDK beta 3 available for download
Apple has posted an updated beta for the iOS 4.2 SDK. iOS 4.2 is expected to debut "in November" for general consumption. If you are part of the developer program, you can head on over to the dev center now, authenticate with your credentials and download the newest release. As always, beta SDKs remain behind an NDA wall, so we cannot post specific details about changes. Developers will find full release notes and update read-me's at the site itself.
A final warning: If you plan to seek alternate means of acquiring and installing 4.2 beta firmware for iDevices, don't. You may very well render your iPhone or iPad inoperative. The OS will not work without an accompanying developer certificate.
Good luck and happy developing.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Ah the days when a non-disclosure agreement actually meant something.
I doubt it'll be long before Apple really do lock down installing Beta iOS versions to developer devices only
As they should! It's amazing the number of people who paid for a dev license just to get access to the betas. Now the forums get clogged up with your average consumer asking why is this or that broken.
Or you have the other side of that where your average consumers are telling developers "But it's a beta, there will be bugs!" Yes, of course there will be - but it's important to TELL SOMEONE about them.
Everyone is saying that the new beta comes with the new messages tones. I have seen the video of them on Gizmodo and yet my iPhone 3GS with beta 3 does NOT have those tones. I have the same generic tones as I've had since day one. I've done the update option and restore option to update the iPhone and still no tones. Any ideas why I didn't get the new tones?

@Tom Gregson - the method you are mentioning does allow you to go to 4.1 to a 4.2 beta without a developer UDID, however, once you are at that 4.2 beta, you can't continue to upgrade each beta as it comes out. So, if you did this at 4.2 Beta 1, when Beta 2 came out, you would be stuck with an expires OS that showed the "Connect to iTunes" screen and no way to upgrade to the next Beta because that requires authentication via an Apple Server.
Not worth the hassle for those without developer access.
That's not true - I went from 3.2 to 4.2 beta 1 to 4.2 beta 2 without a developer UUID. I had access to one as I beta test for developer friend but tried the method mentioned above as it's less hassle. It works - no UUID required!

That is incorrect. As has been widely reported, provided the user chooses UPDATE rather than RESTORE, the beta can be installed problem free without the developer UDID.
I dont know exactly how all that process works since I have developer access. But it's still true because the sentence says you may. So yeah. You may do something stupid.
