iPad now available at Verizon, AT&T stores

Today is October 28th, and that means the iPad is now available in Verizon Wireless and AT&T retail locations. The arrangement was announced October 14th. As a refresher, here's how it works.

At Verizon stores, the iPad (all models) is sold bundled with a Verizon MiFi 2200. The access point offers a 1GB allowance in exchange for $20/month with no contract. Bundles start at $US630 for the 16GB iPad plus a MiFi and go up to $730 for the 32G model and $830 for the 64GB model. At AT&T stores, 3G models are sold with not external access device.

As the holiday shopping season officially begins, the iPad is available from seven vendors: Apple, AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Best Buy, Micro Center, Target and Walmart. That distribution will get the gadget in front of a lot of potential customers. Here's to a successful shopping season.

Here's an excerpt from an email I sent to my company. For those of you interested in getting one of these on the corporate dime, the overage charges are ridiculous. Its far better to stick to the Credit Card based options.

- Data Plan on a Corporate Account
o $40/month for 2GB Domestic Data
 Overages are charged $0.05/MB (that is $50/GB)
 Will not function internationally at all.
o $100/month for 2GB Domestic & 100MB International Data
 Overages are charged $0.005/KB (That is $5/MB or $500/GB)
 There is no contract on this plan
o Accounts will suspend at $100 of overage, lasting until the billing period resets, or an AOP calls in to approve continuing overages.
- Data Plan using a Credit Card
o $15/month for 200MB
 Overages are charged at the same $15 for 200MB rate.
o $25/month for 2GB
 Overages are charged at $10/1GB
- Ordering an iPad from AT&T will block the credit card options and force it into the Corporate Account options only.
- At this time, it appears that the above plans can be changed from the device directly.

You can also now place an iPad onto a corporate post-paid plan, but only the $40/month 2GB Enterprise Plan is allowed. You can still use a credit card to get the $15/200MB and $25/2GB plans though.
