Skyfire browser back in the App Store, but in limited quantities

Sure enough, the first batch is apparently sold out, as I was unable to find it in the store either in iTunes on my Mac or in the App Store on my iPhone. Skyfire CEO Jeff Gleuck is recommending that people hoping to buy Skyfire follow the company on Twitter or friend them on Facebook. That way, you'll be notified when the next batch is released.

The question is, is Skyfire's business model sustainable at $2.99/user flat fee? Flash to H.264 conversion (processing plus serving bandwidth) can't be cheap.

They have no reason to increase demand. The demand is the problem.
So .. how are we feeling about this browser? Is the video quality good/ok/not bad/horrendous? Loading times?
I bought the app with the first batch .. and it was basically useless, could not load a single video. I guess their servers really were busy that night. Tried it again later and it worked seamlessly .. loading time isn't tremendously longer then regular iOS ready video content. The sound seems a bit jacked up .. at least on the NFL.com videos I watched.
I think I will keep browsing in regular safari.app and only switch if there is a video I really want to watch, though. Not sure why, but safari feels better .. weird thing to say.
But hey .. flash video on the iPhone .. me likey.

Looks like they could have used cloud computing like amazon ecc or something to scale better. Customers will wait and they have a unique product, but have customers suffer due to poor planniing on their part?
November 05 2010 at 3:35 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI highly doubt any customers are "suffering" without this browser. I think that they made the best decision possible given the circumstances.
