iPad owners' usage increasing over time

Business Insider recently surveyed 500 iPad users about their habits with some interesting results. Among the most interesting is that nearly 80 percent of respondents (77.6) said they use their iPads more often now than they did when they first got them, suggesting that, after the novelty had worn off, customers continued to use their iPads. Even more so, in fact.

The study also found that 71 percent of participants use their iPads between one and five hours per day. Additionally, 28.9 percent said that their iPad has become their primary computer. Personally, I use mine as a supplement, but my wife hasn't touched our MacBook Pro since the iPad came home.

Most participants reported spending the bulk of their iPad time browsing the Web (37.7 percent) while 39.4 percent claim to have downloaded between 20 and 50 apps (most people paid for about 10 apps).

There's more, of course, which you can read here. It's an interesting study with a decent-sized sample.

This is a very true assessment. I would totally agree. As we also make more of a wider variety of Apps available, users will learn different areas that they can apply it to in their life.

I have noticed that I used it a lot at first. Then for a while it kind of got benched, but lately it has been making a return. It is less of a pain to take with me on the road tethered to my phone. I have a few school books on it for college. It just seems to be getting better. With 4.2 on the horizon I have been getting really excited.

The only reason I use my desktop computer as much as I do can be said in one word, "MineCraft".

I do also do other things on my desktop computer but that is the bulk of it recently.

If it weren't for MineCraft I would say that I use my iPad about as much as my desktop computer, including using it for looking up things about ... MineCraft.

I also read newspapers (in Safari and dedicated apps), I read books (ClassicBooks, iBook, etc), read magazines (2 National Geographic magazines) as well as a whole bunch of stuff including playing multiple iPad instruments (not good enough for anyone to want to listen to me however).

The MacBook Air intrigues me. I have to say that if I could download and use all the apps I have for my iPad on an Air then it would have been better for me to get the Air than me iPad wifi+3G. On the other than, I LOVE the way that apps work on the iPad.

As for the iPhone being better than the iPad as someone else said. Not even close. I almost never use my iPhone anymore except to make phone calls.

Now if they made a usable and fun version of MineCraft for the iPad ...

I have to say that it has been the opposite for me. And it isn't because the novelty wore off, it is because of the following 2 critical issues:

1) iPhone 4. It just does everything and does it better than the ipad. It fits in my pocket, has essentially the same resolution, iOS 4, and developers seems to care a lot more about iphone. The ipad is great, but the iphone is better. My iPad is my laptop replacement and does that job very well. iPhone 4 however does the job even better.

2) iOS 4. I dread turning on my iPad for the lack of folders and multitasking. iOS 4.2 is so close, yet so far. I can almost taste it!

Everything I did at home on the Iphone, I now do on the Ipad.

Can't say one device is better than the other, but my Iphone is now pretty much just a phone and mp3 player, and web browser when I'm not around my Mac or Ipad.

I can relate to both of these... our iPad usage decreased dramatically once we got iPhones. The iPad does certain things much better, but the iPhone is there in my pocket, and it has iOS 4.

I am a two iPad household as well as two macbook pros, an iPhone 2g (glorified ipod now) and iPhone 4. My device time is now shared very much between the three, although toilet time has now become over ridden and longer now to the inclusion of reading on the iphone or playing games on it.

I will say that since getting the iPad I have found that I gravitate to that before my Macbook Pro in certain cases. Casual reading, gaming, emailing, writing, getting business docs in order (come on google doc support for editing in the web browser) usually after hours work (although that is an oxymoron since I work for myself.

It's not a surprise to me that time spent on the devices have risen since their launch...more apps more time to use them. I fall in the 30+ app category, about half of which are business. Most all are paid even if just 99¢ games/business apps.

I took that survey and the questions were interesting. The iPad is the best purchase I have made in a long time. Love this thing. Check the survey out, you will enjoy,,,
