iOS 4.2.1 gold master posted to Apple developer center

developer updateWe're inching ever closer to the public release of iOS 4.2 for iPad, people! Apple's developer center just posted build 8C148, listed as iOS 4.2.1 GM (gold master). Does this mean we're getting iOS 4.2 tomorrow? We'll keep refreshing our iTunes update screens and running our shell scripts -- as soon as we see the new version drop, we will let you know.

Not updating to 4.2. And risk slowing it down like on the iPhone 3GS. Nope.

Mainly because I use the horizontal-vertical switch a lot every day. And now making it a software solution that takes some three, four more movements? Forget it.

Plus, these days with Apple, you don't know what you're gonna get. Just look at the horribly, grey iTunes. I almost stopped using it.

Also, many reports about crashes of iTunes and Safari after update to 10.6.5. Haven't experienced it with iTunes, but Safari constantly crashes now.

Such a shame. Started with Macs ten years ago, because they just worked. Not so anymore. 10.4 was solid and reliable, but too many programmes don't work on it today. Don't know what happened at Apple since then, but I'll downgrade to 10.6.4 and stay there.

If the release of a gold master today meant the "real" release tomorrow, wouldn't we all already have had 4.2 for a week or more by now?

Uh-huh. Wouldn't this release really be a "Double Gold Master". This is beginning to feel like the infamous Windows 7 announcements.

Or they'll just skip 4.2 and release 4.2.1.

Screw 4.2, I want Xcode 4. Clang has already debugged my code way better than GCC on Linux, needs me it on Mac now too!

With each new release I’m kinda hoping this would finally bring back 3G reception on my iPad but I guess I’ve lost that for good…!?

"purports to be"

What... you're suggesting Apple has posted a false update?

No, only that we haven't seen the version numbering with our own wee eyes yet.
