Foxconn denies selling white iPhone parts
Manufacturer Foxconn has denied selling white iPhone parts in a statement made through the Taiwanese stock exchange.
Last August, we pointed out WhiteiPhone4Now, a website selling white iPhone conversion kits. Earlier this week, the site's owner, Fei Lam, saw his project gain the attention of a private investigator who, according to Lam's attorney, was working for Apple.
In the story that broke on Wednesday, it was stated that Lam was believed to be buying the casings from Foxconn, the manufacturer that assembles a number of Apple products (among other things). Today, Foxconn is denying the claim.
Of course, we still don't know where Lam was getting his casings (the best-looking we're seen), or how apparently intact, legitimate white iPhone 4s are appearing elsewhere in China.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to get officially unavailable white iPhones into the hands of people willing to pay top dollar, no questions asked.

If Apple just released the white iPhone like it said it was going to back in July. How about that Apple? Instead of ruining more folks' lives, how about you deliver this product like you promised consumers, therefore eliminating the need to buy "supposedly stolen" third party kits from teenagers with business acumen? Or is that too much common sense for you?

Apple hasn't released the white iPhone because there is some sort of problem or issue with it. Whether it's brittleness in the white Gorilla Glass panels, or too much light bleeding in and washing out the photos, we don't know (but both have been offered as rumors why the phone hasn't been released).
Apple has both a right AND an obligation to protect their IP. This kid clearly has more stones than he has brains.
Wow - I'd love to get one for Xmas. I'll ask for it using this app; http://bit.ly/czhoY7

Either way you go to jail. To bad this kid will be barred from any good college for being a criminal. Just a dumb move.

It's hard to say if this teenager got the parts from Foxconn, but I am 100% sure Foxconn sells parts for the iPhone (except for the main boards, because Apple delivers and keeps stock of these, the other parts Foxconn is free to make as many as they want)
Foxconn also sells parts from Macs. the iPad and iPod's. Of course the statement Foxconn made was from their Taiwan office and the parts were sold from Shenzhen. I suppose it could be possible the folks at HQ are blind to it, but more likely they have accidentally forgot.
I remember when the 3G was introduced; you couldn't get black for love nor money, only white (which no one liked). This time round it seems then that people prefer only the colour they cant have LOL!
As for spares, I know where you can easily buy all the parts to make a white iPhone for around $100 ... and why shouldn't they sell them and why shouldn't people buy them!!!
BTW: you can buy EXACTLY the same kit this teenager is selling for $275 for $99 on eBay from misc. Chinese suppliers - I bet this is where he is getting them from - check it out...
November 19 2010 at 2:57 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyLots of those white parts sold on eBay are actually manufactured by 3rd parties, why is everyone blaming Foxconn?... The same thing was with 2G, 3G and 3GS parts, there are hundreds of 3rd party compatible parts for sale (inclusive of back and front covers, screens and digitizers). All Apple parts manufactured by Foxconn (at least LCD and digitizers) can be recognized by clear Apple markings and part numbers on the connecting cables, so it is easy to check.
