Easily fix "vanishing" iPhone music in iOS 4.2.1

Some iPhone users are reporting that their iPhones are unable to play music after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1. Fortunately, the fix is simple (for most). In fact, all you must do is re-sync your iPhone.

If you receive a message that the iPod app is unable to play your music after updating (you'll see a message that says something like, "There is no content on this device"), just connect it to your Mac and sync with iTunes as usual. Yes, that's it.

There seems to be additional trouble for those who are manually managing their music. One thread poster notes that he has to launch the iPod app, play a song and then sync every time new content is added, or the problem returns.

What has your experience been? Please share a fix if you've found it and help some folks out.

I have a weird issue where the text tones and ringtones dont play right. They seem to skip the first few seconds of the sound and in the case of MMS it skips the whole thing. Anyone else experience this?

Didn't have this problem, but when I first launched the iPod and Photos apps they appeared empty for a few seconds before a "Rebuilding library" progress bar appeared at the bottom of the iPhone screen.

Has Apple incorporated iPod Nano controls into the iPod app of the iPhone?

Out of habit, I was on the album display of the Now Playing song on my iPhone and as I would with my nano, swiped back to the playlist and it went back!!!!

I don't know, has this feature always been there?

iPhone 4, upgraded to 4.2.1. In iMovie, I have lost my video clips. Not all, but most all. There is a yellow ! Where the clip should be. This is full clips and edited clips. The videos are in the photo folder and play just fine. Any reports of this?

Ho Hum, just ANOTHER bug that they squashed back in 2.X or 3.X firmware back AGAIN!!! Apparently the idiot coders at Apple just love to reintroduce bugs that were already killed. Like Wifi bug etc...

It's nice that there's an easy fix, but it doesn't help if you notice on the train to work when you won't be able to get back to your machine for 8+ hours :(

My bad was updating to 4.2 on the office Mac instead of the home Mac (so impatient). Had the same issue (no songs or vids though the storage space was the same), so reconnected to iTunes, saw the songs and vids on the iTouch, played one song from the iTouch through iTunes, and the songs and vids appeared. Very strange.
