New 'iPad Is Amazing' ad touts iOS 4.2 features

iPad IsApple's latest iPad commercial, "iPad Is Amazing", is touting iOS 4.2's new features including AirPrint, AirPlay, multitasking, and folders. Aimed at corralling holiday technology shoppers, this new ad definitely offers up something for everyone in the family.

Just for the record, I will admit that bought an iPad when they were first announced. I will also admit that I returned it one week later, as I didn't feel that it did anything that my MacBook and iPhone couldn't already do at the time. Thinking back to that week I understand why I felt that way then, but with the new OS and all the apps available now I think I could find a use for an iPad in my house today.

Well, even though you changed your mind, now you might as well wait for the Ipad 2.

"I returned (my iPad) one week later, as I didn't feel that it did anything that my MacBook and iPhone couldn't already do..."

One of the things I've read over and over again is that people use their iPad MORE the longer they have it. It grows on you. This is the opposite of things like the Wii and bodes well for future of the iPad.

I had them before the update too. It's been an issue for a while. I've found that if you put your wifi on one channel instead of having it automatically pick one or change it stops the problems. Mine is on channel 7 I believe.

Information Central: You sound pretty frustrated. You would want Mac to be only for the creatives? I don't think the phrase "this is the direction computing is going" need to mean much if anything negative, if you're right. The iPad won't kill the Mac - you need a Mac simply to make the apps for it, to begin with (and most of that is dictated by size and batterylife).

Have you seen how difficult it seems to be to make a great app for the iPad? Touch screen UIs seem to force the design of apps to the edge - everything needs to be right, since what you see indeed is what you get, and touch. This can't be all bad things. If anything, I think it brings focus back to the quality of apps.

It's not about killing the Mac as much as it is about cross-pollination. If the iPad can bring in the masses that didn't get computers well before, it could serve like a didactic tool for programmers: you want customers? Then do great work. Keyboard shortcuts and drop-down menus were great inventions, but they also serve to hide bad UI metaphors and app structure.

What if anything in the Lion keynote - if you saw it - makes you think it's going to get dumbed-down? Disappearing scroll-bars? I think it's more about taking advantage of what they learned about dealing with making the most out of small screens, and learning from touch UIs.

As great as iPad is, the desktop UI with a trackpad is mostly much more efficient. Especially with trackpad gestures (BetterTouchTool), I feel like I'm finally getting close to working intuitively on my Mac. And what is BetterTouchTool about? It's mostly about assigning keyboard shortcuts to mouse gestures. See?

"truly needed" is a bit of a stretch.

Majority of users are using Gmail / Exchange, hence no need for filters.

Alright people. Let's get to work. What apps were featured on the ad and what song was playing?

It's the same song that's in every "iPad is..." ad: "Never Stop", Chilly Gonzales
