New iPad case shows curves, camera hole

Shenzhen MacTop Electronics has posted (English translation) a picture of what is supposedly a case for the next-generation iPad, complete with more pronounced curvature and a hole for a rear-facing camera. Also, the speaker slot (assuming that's what it is) is much larger than what's currently on the iPad. The tiny hole that we assume is for a camera is in the upper left-hand corner, similar to where the camera lives on the iPhone and iPod touch.

As MacStories notes, it might be odd to shoot photos with that gigantic thing, but what do I know? We'll find out soon enough, as the so-called "iPad 2" is rumored to hit shelves in April of next year.

I'd like to see a camera (or two) on the iPad. An SD card slot would be nice.
Faster processor is always good. In general, I'm very happy with my iPad. It's not perfect, a little heavy to read in bed with. The new AirPlay is pretty great. The only real complaint I have is the blocking of tethering to my iPhone. I'm not paying for two 3G plans. Had my phone jail-broken for a while for tethering, but too much of a hassle. If I could tether it to my phone, I'd use it more in the field. They should push AirPlay as a good presentation device.

Perhaps they have incorporated a stand into the device?

Isn't the space on the upper left corner supposed to be the "landscape mode" docking plug ? I think I've read that before.

Front camera = Facetime
Rear camera in the back is a must,... welcome Augmented Reallity!
Think in house appliance, cooking etc... perfect for the iPad.

But placing it in the middle could be more practical.

A camera makes sense on the back as it allows people to share their surroundings using face time...rather than having to turn the iPad around and be unable to see whoever's looking at you.

Why would apple make a plastic case? Wtf - no one said Apple had made this... it's been described as a case, not the actually body of the new iPad.

As for the extra room at the bottom, I'm really hoping the Apple sees that it will need on-board USB for it to be used as a primary computing device.

This can't be real, at most they are pieces from some ipad prototype. this is a step back design wise, the iphone 4 adapted its design from the ipad, why would the ipad then go back and adapt the design of the iphone 3g/3gs? doesnt make sense to me... then again, maybe the plastic is for better reception? plus, who would be taking pictures from the back of the iPad? I get that the iphone uses the rear camera for facetiming, but with the ipad, its so unnatural, the way you would hold hte two is different, the ipad you would rest in your lap or on something, where as you would hold the iphone... if this is real, i would be surprised.

I still don't get the point of a rear-facing camera on a tablet. Who's going to run around with a 10" device using it to take pictures?

Or, that big gap on the lower left is for a flip-out USB port or something similar like the original MacBook Air... Especially considering the newly granted patent on that design. Wishful thinking probably but who knows.
