AirPlay running on XBMC Linux box

AirPlay. It's not just for Apple products anymore. The video you see on the next page shows an XBMC install on a Ubuntu Linux box running an AirPlay client service. As with the AirPlayer solution I wrote for the Mac, the XBMC application advertises on Bonjour and can be played to directly from the built-in iOS video menus.

In addition, several people have contacted me to mention that they're working on Windows adaptations as well. The photo below is a preliminary peek at an in-progress project being built by @infectionfx.

Thanks, davilla.

What about the other way i.e. using the Linux box running XBMC as an AirPlay server and the iPad as a client? Any possibilities?

Sweet, now if you could port airplayer to the first gen appletv or get this loaded into xbmc 10 on appletv 1st gen... There would be a lot of thankful aTV gen 1 users that previously felt left out of all the airplay awesomeness.

I cannot see - realistically - why anyone would want to stream content from a portable devic to a more full-featured device with a ton more storage.

I've got an HTPC, my friend comes over with a new movie on his iPhone. We can now watch that movie on my system.

Sure, plugging into the computer will give access to the iTunes content, but what about other media... this is a very cool development.

Wasn't it @digsim who did this, and created the video?

It'd be nice to see AirPlayer ported to the older/first-generation AppleTV.
