Survey: 19 percent of households with iPads are likely to buy another

We've heard before that iPad demand is super high around the world, and here's another reason why: households that already have an iPad are actually pretty likely to go out and buy another one. In a recent survey of Americans who own iPads, 17 percent said they already own more than one iPad, and another fifth (19 percent) said that they were considering purchasing another device in the future. And which device are they considering? Another iPad, of course. The most common reason given for purchasing another iPad is that someone else in the household (either a spouse or a child) is using the one they've already got.
That's pretty crazy. Not only is the iPad strongly demanded by people who haven't bought one yet, Apple actually has a good chance of selling yet another iPad to households who already have one. This backs up what we've heard about customer usage as well: people are tending to use their iPad more the longer they've owned it.
A figure like this helps lend some credence to those gigantic predictions for iPad sales in 2011. Especially if we see a revision as predicted early next year, a lot of households in America and elsewhere might end the year with more than one tablet device around.

This is accurate for me, anyway. I just bought my iPad a few days ago* and I've barely put it down. I think one reason is never having to worry about battery life or even Internet access (since I sprung for the 3G).
*I know it's a horrible time to buy since there will probably be a new one very soon, but I'm stuck with family for the holiday and I needed a distraction or I would have gone insane. I'll probably buy a 3rd gen when they come out.
Your point on statistics is true, though you fall guilty to spinning the numbers yourself - only 64% would be reasonably categorized as thinking it's too expensive to own more than one. The 17% who already own a second one cannot be fairly grouped into the category you put them in.
Also, in all fairness, this is a portable computer and I'd assume that the number of people who own more than one netbook, or are planning to buy a second netbook in the near future, is lower than the numbers shown here. Fully 1/3 of iPad owners either have already bought a second one, or are considering it; which given the $500-$830 price tag is pretty impressive.
have 2, will probably skip iPad 2

Please folks learn to read these crappy studies that people put out to make things look favorable to their own ends. Thats high school statistics.

We have one. Won't buy another for a year or two, main reason to buy another will be upgraded tech. Sure another iPad would be cool, but with our iPhones we just don't need it right now.
Of course, when our girls get older (and usage habits evolve) the one-tablet 'need' will probably change.
Would it be possible to reprint the comments from the day Apple introduced the ipad? It might be fun to read them.
