WSJ: Verizon iPhone will offer unlimited data

We've been wondering for the past day or so what the distinguishing features of the Verizon iPhone might be. Will it come in colors? Aside from VZW's respectable network and CDMA technology, how will the iPhone experience on Big Red be different?

If the Wall Street Journal is right, there'll be a big difference in the service plans: unlimited data. The paper cites a source familiar with Verizon's plans saying that an unlimited data option will be available. By comparison, AT&T moved to a capped tier this summer, which angered some users who preferred the unlimited option.

This is awesome. It'll force AT&T to do the same, or risk losing customers. Hopefully it does the same for the price. Hopefully Verizon drops the unlimited data to $25, then AT&T adds it back.. for $25, not $30.

A price war between US carrier's would be a wonderful thing for us subscribers. I am getting tired of forking out so much money to AT&T for service that never improves; even though they claim they are spending millions of dollars a year upgrading their network.

I also heard that the Verizon iPhone will come with a purple unicorn.

Sorry, unless that unicorn has *all* the colors of the rainbow, I'm not interested.

For me, I am interested in what verizon has to offer. I will hold off switching until I see what the iPhone 5 has to offer and who will have it. Does not make any sense to get roped into another contract just before a new generation phone is released.

What is more interesting to me is that once Vzw has the iPhone, the iPad cannot be too far behind.

Verizon already sells the wifi iPad. Why pay for 3G on contract when you can go no contract MIFI?

I dropped AT&T months ago and hacked my iPhone, and the data cap is what sealed the deal. If VZW goes unlimited, hopefully AT&T will have to follow suit.

There'll be no concurrent phone calls and web browsing (i.e. data use) on Verizon's 3G...

Well it won't lure me to Verizon, but maybe AT&T will match it.

If Verizon does get the iPhone, it will be a CDMA iPhone. So it won't be neat.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Give my unlimited data AND tethering and Verizon will have another ATT switcher.

As you all probably know, we can buy factory-unlocked iPhones in the UK and choose which network to go with. The advantage is that you don't have to go with an iPhone-specific plan with just one network.

My plan costs £10 ($15.50) per month and I get 600 minutes, 600 SMS, unlimited landline and data (fair-use & capped at 750MB -- basically the data slows down) so I can afford a £15 per month data plan for the iPad (10GB per month).

I wonder if Apple will produce a "universal" iPhone and start selling unlocked iPhones everywhere, including in the US.

It would be great to have that choice.

That sounds like a great deal. How much are you paying for the unlocked phone? $599? It's always good to hear the specifics of how the UK plans compare to the US plans.
