The Beatles sell 5 million songs on iTunes

The Loop reports that The Beatles have sold 5 million songs and 1 million albums since going on sale in the iTunes Store last November. So far, the most popular Beatles song download is "Here Comes the Sun," while the band's top-selling album is "Abbey Road."

Last week we reported that The Beatles' surviving band members (and the estates of John and George) got a special royalty deal from Apple in order to get The Beatles on the iTunes Store. As part of that deal, The Beatles will reportedly earn between 18 to 22.5 cents per track sold on iTunes. With 5 million individual tracks sold so far, that equates to a cool $900,000 to $1.125 million profit for The Beatles for just seven weeks of sales. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

Michael Jackson was murdered? Wow! I thought he just couldn't take his Propofol.
Have you told anyone else about this? This could be massive.

These are great news.
Although it is fun to buy a disc in a case, so, was the fun to buy records.
Times are changed and if someone wants to buy a single song instead of all album, this is the way to do it easily.

They couldn't make this money with Michael Jackson in the way. He was worth more dead than alive, that's why he was murdered.

Please. The Beatles didn't get or want or need a special deal with iTunes. They were fighting to get a better cut of the 70% of sales that EMI gets.

If the Beatles are getting about 20% of the total sale, then EMI are still getting 50% of it! (and iTunes their usual 30%).

They're the Beatles. They would not be pushed around, and did it on their terms. They paid for it, sure, but they can afford it.

It's like saying that people who buy Bentleys are stupid, since they can get a Caddilac for 10% of the cost.

They want a Bentley, they pay for it.

The Beatles didn't like any of the previous offers, they paid for it.
