New Apple iPhone ad brings AT&T and Verizon together

Love, peace and harmony. That's what Apple seems to be pushing in the latest iPhone advertisement to hit the airwaves.
The ad, titled "Two is Better than One," shows a pair of iPhones performing side-by-side synchronized app usage. The action is backed by that beautiful piece of waltz music used to good effect by ice skaters and Stanley Kubrick, Johann Strauss's "On the Beautiful Blue Danube."
At the end of the 30-second piece, AT&T and Verizon logos are seen side-by-side. Considering the level of sniping being done by the two carriers, it's nice to see Apple stepping in as a mediator. For US smartphone users, it's great to finally have a choice.

You're thinking like a geek. :) To the average user, this commercial sends the message Apple wants to get across: iPhone is now on Verizon, and it's just as good as AT&T.
And yes, four would be better than two. I don't think it'll be long before that happensâ now that the door is ajar, it'll be far easier to fling it wide open.
So does that mean that with other OS's (BB, Android) that working on the 4 major carriers is better than 1 or 2? Doesn't that mean this is still a limitation?
If one version of the iPhone worked on both AT&T and Verizon (with a GSM and CDMA radio), then I can see this commercial making more sense.
I was dumbfounded when I first saw this ad. Both brand managers from AT&T & Verizon should be fired. That ad has destroyed years of differentiation efforts. An iPhone will function differently on AT&T's network than it will on Verizon's. Both companies should be playing up their respective advantages, not letting Apple demonstrate that there are no noticeable differences between the two.

January 24 2011 at 9:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIn the past, though, Apple *has* used their independent ads to point out the AT&T advantage. It's only been done for one key difference, I believe: simultaneous voice and data.
So, at the end of the ad, they should show the AT&T phone using Maps on a call, while the Verizon user turns on the mobile hotspot and connects with a MacBook Air. :)
I feel like this is grammatically incorrect. It should be "Two *are* better than one," right? I'm trying to figure out a way that it could be "is" because I don't think Apple would make that mistake, but I can't.

January 23 2011 at 4:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt would seem unlikely. The bandwidth of EVDO is puny compared to HSPDA, so if AT&T could not do it, Verizon has no hope.
Which is all well and good (and makes FaceTime basically useless) but in other countries it could be easily handled, it's annoying being limited to US network abilities.
