Verizon iPhone preorders will start at 3 AM February 3
MacRumors received an email from Verizon saying that the carrier will begin its preorder sales of the iPhone at 3 AM EST on February 3, just over a week from now. The February 3 preorder date is just for current Verizon Wireless customers who have their My Verizon account set up. Preorders are limited, so once they're gone, Verizon's preexisting customers will have to wait until the February 10 general sale date.
MacRumors said that Verizon is allowing some AT&T iPhone customers to trade in their phones for credit if they make the switch to the Verizon iPhone. At the same time, AT&T is doing whatever it can to keep those customers. Trade-in prices, as listed by MacRumors, are:
- iPhone (16 GB - first generation): $60
- iPhone 3G (16 GB): $105
- iPhone 3GS (32 GB): $160
- iPhone 4 (16 GB): $280
- iPhone 4 (32 GB): $360

I'm a Verizon customer with a Droid. I use Apple projects exclusively at home. I always thought i would switch to an iphone when VZ got them. However, now that the time has come, I keep thinking about what I will be giving up if I switch. The Droid is a great phone. However, I would love to have itunes on my phone with a line level out instead of having to use the headphone jack (I think all of the Droid phones should have some sort of standarized jack if they really want to compete with the iphone). Anyway, I am going to wait to see if the phones are any good on VZ, as phones! Also, as others have said, I think the smart move is to hold off for 5 months and see what Apple comes up with in June.

By taking my 32 GB iPhone 4 from Canada, and switching to Verizon.. I could make a profit.
Hopefully its not all out of stock at 3:01 am, cause there is no way im getting up that early. Im to excited because ive been using a dumb phone for a while. In the decade ive been with big v, i have never had a single drop call or reception issue, hopefully that doesnt change.

January 27 2011 at 1:01 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm concerned about preordering considering im paying month to month for the 32gb model! Will i still be able to preorder even though im not eligible for an upgrade!?

AT&T early termination fee $325 -$70 ($10 off each month of service) total $255
New iPhone 4 32GB from Verizon $367.15
Verizon iPhone trade in -$360
Money lost if i switch to Verizon $629.30
HAHAHAHA I don't think so. Anyone who would consider this is a moron with money, so that sums up most people in the US (example: have you herd about the recession?). I'm going to laugh when the network crashes on the 10th and for the next few years complaints on how crappy the service is with the iPhone on the network.
You shouldn't refer to ANYONE as a moron when you cannot even spell heard correctly!
January 27 2011 at 12:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThink they will let me trade in an iPhone original and a 16 gig iPhone 3G? Sadly, I didn't get to keep my iPhone 4 when I terminated my contract with AT&T.

January 27 2011 at 12:41 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't know what MacRumors is calling a "2G iPhone with 16GB," but this story lists that as the first generation. The first gen only came in 4GB and 8GB.
January 27 2011 at 12:35 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe first-generation iPhone was later offered in a 16 GB capacity, in February 2008.

Those are great trade-in rates. At this point, you'd have to be crazy not to jump ship from AT&T (if you like Verizon better, that is, and don't mind paying AT&T's crazy ETF).
January 27 2011 at 12:27 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAs a mostly-satisfied AT&T customer, I think it's worth waiting to see what Apple announces this summer. I love my iPhone 4, but I'm not thrilled at the prospect of resetting my 2-year contract on it, especially with LTE just around the corner.
