Flash-friendly Skyfire browser for iPad gets updated

Skyfire for iPadAfter the initial iPhone, iPad and iPod touch version earned $1 million in its first weekend on the App Store back in November, the third-party iPad-specific web browser Skyfire for iPad (US$4.99) has been updated to Version 2.1.1 and is available for downloading now. Fixes in the update include auto-completing URLs, stronger privacy controls and several performance improvements.

Because Apple's iOS devices do not support Flash, the Skyfire browser provides a workaround that transcodes Flash video into HTML5 and thus enables iDevice owners to access most Flash-based websites and videos.

While Skyfire for iPad version 2.1.1 requires, well, an iPad running iOS 3.2 or later, iPhone and iPod touch users can download their own version for $2.99 from the App Store as well.

Skyfire works on a lot of web sites like cbs.com, wwe.com, and several porn sites which i believe is the real reason people want flash on the ipad.

I very much wish that the ipad would support Flash. I appreciate the Skyfire app but the sites with flash video that I've checked so far for compatibility (http://www.skyfire.com/support/video-site-check) haven't been. Like HGTV, for ex. I didn't really notice the lack of flash with my iphone, but man do I notice it with the ipad.

@adam On the iPad product, make sure that you press the video icon on the bottom left of the toolbar when you encounter a page with flash video on it. Skyfire does not support all websites, but we stream videos from more than 100,000 sites on a monthly basis.

Ok am I missing something here? I downloaded skyfire and tested it on several streaming pages including the comedy network and global tv and nothing I found worked with it. Is the purpose alluding me here? 9 out of 10 sites I tried did not work. The only one that did was youtube and I can already play that.

If Apple needed any evidence that people would like to be able to use Flash on their iPads, they have it.

$1,000,000 in 2 days at $2.99 a pop. That's a lotta love for Flash content.

Actually, all the people complaining in reviews about how crashy and buggy it is would seem to support Apple's stance that Flash doesn't belong on iOS devices.

That's a very blinkered way to look at the issue. People who purchase Skyfire are not interested in getting Flash on their idevices, they just want the content, and preferably in H.264. It's a very good workaround, but thankfully, websites are rapidly converting to H.264. I have Skyfire and I rarely need to use it.
