9to5Mac acquires iPad 2 display

9to5Mac reports that it has acquired an iPad 2 display from iPhone repair shop iFIxYouri.com. 9to5Mac has not been able to verify the display's resolution yet, though one of the site's commenters has made an unverified claim that the display is a 9.7-inch display from LG with a 1024 x 768 resolution, the same resolution as the current iPad. If they really want to verify the display resolution, I can think of one way: put it under a microscope.
Noting higher build quality compared to the currently-shipping iPad's LCD, 9to5Mac also says the display is lighter and over a millimeter thinner than the current iPad's display. The display appears superficially similar to one that parts reseller GlobalDirectParts offered a few weeks ago (which has since been pulled from the site), which lends credence to 9to5Mac's claim that this is the next-gen iPad's display.
We expect the iPad 2 to debut within the next couple of months, so we'll know if this display is the real deal relatively soon.

I'm in. I made the mistake of getting a 16gb iPad and am crying for space.
No matter what, the iPad 2 will give me everything I need. More memory and more space. Anything else is gravy for me.
Sheesh, so much animosity from people.
Enough already. I wanted an iPad on day one but refused to buy one without camera and facetime capability. That should have been on Rev1 but Apple sold it without those things. I hope it comes out soon because I'm getting tired of waiting.

Wait, why are people buying 'keyboards' for them? Wait, why are people buying cases for them? Wait, why didn't people just buy a LAPTOP that has a keyboard, folds to protect the screen and keyboard. And actually has memory (250gbs for $349 with cd/dvd player burner - thats what I'm typing on now). If I'm going to carry a computer (yep, buy a I-Pad and you will buy a carrying case) I'd rather carry 2 or 3 more pounds and have a computer I can type on (try doing 65 wpm on a touch screen), run programs ('jee, thanks for lending me the cd. Let me load it in and I'll give it back'...can't do that with a 'I-Pad no cd drive) or music ('oh you found that lp for me, here's the usb. Let me connect it to my laptop...can't do that with a 'I-Pad, no usb ports). So why pay $400/$700 for something that looks 'pretty' but makes you buy more?

Just look at his comment history:
http://www.tuaw.com/profile/2995722/
He adds virtually nothing to this site or its reader comments. It's one thing to have constructive dialogue from dissenting opinion without using hyperbole, rash statements and sounding like an asshole but this guy does not fall into that category. It's always an argument instead of a discussion, spurring contempt and ridicule. All he does is bitch.
I see that Joanna Dark has already been banned, I think it's Jordan's turn.
I don't understand why Jordan sticks around and posts what he posts. Does he thoroughly enjoy getting down-ranked?
That said, ryan is right. 1 millimetre in the scheme of things can make a difference. And as pointed out in the source article (or maybe the comments, I can't remember), the display being thinner is good for the design team.
There's so much effort put into finding out about the next, evolutionary step in iPad technology. Where are the people sleuthing about the next MacBookPro? Does it have an optical drive, or the first quad-core Mac laptop (despite the boost in power that would require?) So many of us want to know this info just as badly, and given the likely release date, it should be just as available. Where is it?

Plus, last month the iBooks app had iPad retina display files in it.
And I doubt it will be matte... Matte touchscreens do not work well. High-traffic finger areas like the slide to unlock screen wear down on the matte and eventually turn glossy. Matte is a waste of time for touchscreens.
So you are basing the fact that it's retina based on the fact that the iPhone 4 screen is black when it's off?
Really?
Sigh.
There have been enough reasons as to why it will most likely NOT be retina that make a serious amount of logical sense.
As for the iBooks retina icons... well, ithat might mean something, but there's more evidence against than for..
If it's not higher resolution then I'm note buying. iPad 3 here i come!!!
