TUAW app updated, should fix your iPad woes

A few readers wrote in to tell us that the updated TUAW app was crashing on the iPad. We promised a fix, and hopefully we've delivered: TUAW version 2.0.2 is now available on the App Store. Please note that while this does correct the iPad crash and several other bugs, there is still a different in-app storage setup for saved articles and your saved posts will not transfer to the new version -- please make a separate note of them before upgrading.

TUAW writer TJ Luoma reports the app is working fine on his iPad now. Give us feedback, either here in the comments or via our feedback form, and tell us how it's running for you now. As for when we'll have an iPad-formatted version of our app, that's unfortunately still up in the air. Meanwhile, we hope the iPhone version of our app works better for you after the update.

Yeah, losing all saved articles upon upgrading was rather annoying.

And what was the point of the switch from iOS's standard behavior of sliding in articles from the right? It isn't that a big deal, but popping up an article from the bottom feels jarring — especially when each list item still has a right arrow.

This gives me one of those annoying "age restricted material" warnings before download (you know, the kind you only notice an hour or so later when you need to use your device again).

The internet is a wild and dangerous place. I'm glad Apple is there so protect me and my children against TUAW's filth.

Rated 17+ for "Frequent/Intense Mature/Suggestive Themes". Guess I should be surprised given the amount of adult material that we get here.

It seems that someone failed to mention that by installing this update you would loose ALL your saved articles that you had.(IPhone 3GS)
Other than that - it works great on the IPhone and IPad in my case.

Thanks for the update

There's already a Tuaw iPad app.

It's called: Flipboard

Fixes my iPad woes?

Yes I can pull it up on my iPad but NO my woes are not fixed. There is still no LANDSCAPE version of TUAW and it is still stuck at iPhone resolution which looks very ugly on an iPad. And I don't think looking ugly is what TUAW really wants, or at least people like me don't want.

So NO, my woes are not fixed. My woes just aren't broken but they still suck. Suck enough that I don't use the app but use the web version instead.

Next time ask your customers.

The update fix works on my iPad but some text is unreadable/fuzzy in 2x mode and the site just looks horrible. I read TUAW multiple times / day so I am going to stick with the tuaw.com site on my iPad. It looks and works better. Take time to make the iPad app GREAT. (as good as your reporting)

Thanks! And I agree -- I'd rather have something special for iPad.

Wait until you see what we're cooking up in a redesign, however. You may like what you see on iPad ;)

Poor TUAW, ever the red-headed stepchild to Engadget's favorite status what with it having an actual iPad app, a redesign once every year and a working comment system too.

What would be REALLY nice is being able to read the comments without opening the in-built web browser.

Any chance of that in a future update?

As you've likely noticed our commenting system is woefully inadequate. Rather than grafting a bad system into a decent app, we're waiting to implement something better. Stay tuned (it'll be this year, however).
