Skype updates iOS app for Verizon iPhone

All of the new Verizon iPhone 4 owners who are looking for apps to install on their shiny new devices can add Skype to the list. The free Skype app has been updated today so that it functions properly on the Verizon iPhone, and the update also adds support for the H.264 codec. This support is crucial to allowing Skype users to call from their iOS devices to more Skype-enabled devices, including new TVs from Panasonic and Samsung.

Of course, now that you're on the "Can You Hear Me Now?™" network, you shouldn't need to resort to Skype for your calls, should you?

The most important "feature" for this update for me: fixed the crash-on-startup caused by installing Skype after jailbreaking with RedSn0w 0.9.7b6.

So what's the difference? I thought TUAW just wrote a scathing report on another blogger that jumped the gun on the Telenav app and because he inferred fragmentation. So is this more fragmentation or just another coincidence? It doesn't cost anything, so it doesn't matter, but we should at least have had some real journalism and got a follow up from Skype.

Actually it hasn't. Most Droid phones on the Verizon network skype will work just fine. I've used it several times for talking to people over seas while I haven't been near my computer.

Will Verizon allow the iphone to make Skype calls over wifi?

So far Verizon has blocked this from all other phones on it's network.
