iPads don't make you attractive to the opposite sex

Sorry to burst your bubble, iPad owners, but owning and using an iPad doesn't exactly make the opposite sex swoon, at least according to Retrevo 's Gadgetology Report. The report asked consumers if they notice other people's gadgets and, if so, how they react to them, and it turns out that seeing someone use an iPad is lower on the standard "I find you attractive" scale than seeing them with a pile of books. Only 36 percent of men are attracted to a woman because of her iPad, versus 42 percent liking a woman reading a book. As for the women, 29 percent like a man with an iPad, and 30 percent prefer book readers. Seems that traditional books really won't be going anywhere, even with all the popularity of the iPad.
With Valentine's Day coming up, it looks like you are going to have to try harder to impress your favorite somebody and do something other than just carry your iPad around in public. Maybe try making an edible iPhone cake, some iCupcakes or a chocolate-covered iPad instead? The possibilities are endless!

I have to dispute the findings here. Its clearly a bad study, because drawing and painting is ranked lowest, when I know for a fact, that whenever I have my sketchbook out in public, I can't get people to leave me alone. Its kind of a problem really. its really hard to sketch with everyone wanting to see the sketch. Then you give up and show them the sketch and they get that obvious look of disappointment on their face because it isn't finished yet. Sometimes things just look like a mess until you put on that one last touch that turns it into a landscape full of happy little trees. Haven't they ever watched Bob Ross?
Devices like the iPad are only interesting to those kind of people when they are new.
To the moron who wrote this article: Actually, the survey asked respondents if they were more likely to be attracted to "a person"... it didn't say anything about the opposite sex. Way to piss off all your non-straight readers, loser.

I bet if they'd included "breathing" in the survey, more males would find it attractive. :)

February 11 2011 at 12:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAll this survey says is that men are more impressed by "things" than women are. End of.
February 11 2011 at 12:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhaha! Only thing I see in the statistic is that men in general are more interested in women. What ever gadget/tool ist about. Are we more materialistic or hunting more for women.
Chill out guys and relax. Give them the cold shoulder and let's turn that statistic around ;-) they'll come running anyway.
I would really rather have the girl that liked me because she saw me reading a physical book anyway. Not because of my cool car or my cool phone or my iPad

If you're in a committed relationship, then of course you shouldn't be trying to pick up girls with your iPhone, but in many cases where two people are just looking for an excuse to start talking, electronic devices (particularly Apple) are often the perfect opening. Which is different than being attracted to someone because of of their cool gadget.
I don't get why this is particularly fluffy or a waste of space. It's 3 days before Valentines Day. The airwaves are going to be awash with stories like this, just like they are every year at this time.
What I did find weird were the attempts to break down the findings to suggest that reading books were significantly higher on the attraction scale. 36-42% is hardly a meaningful difference and 29-30% is the same statistic allowing for margins of error.
