TUAW's Daily App: Infinity Blade

Odds are that you already know what Infinity Blade is, and you might already have it on your iOS devices, too. But just in case you don't, we're spotlighting one of the best iOS games of last year, which happens to be available on the App Store right now for the sale price of US$2.99 -- for this game, that's a steal. If you haven't picked up this big-budget example of how experienced developers can do iOS games right, today's your chance. The game's already received one content update, and another big update is coming soon.

Even if you already have Infinity Blade, you can check out Joystiq's fine writeup of how the game was made, straight from the floor of GDC 2011. Chair Entertainment talks about how they had tons of game ideas (from a physics puzzler to a card game -- I'd like to play either of those), but eventually boiled down what worked on a platform like the iPhone to what they came up with in Infinity Blade. It's a great game at a great price, so definitely grab it as quickly as you can.

I grew bored after a few times through the same 4-5 encounters, only to get whacked by the end boss, without a way I could figure out to do anything but go one of a couple of ways to the boss and get killed.

Seriously if you guys can't beat the boss u really suck. I mean I'm not a hard core gamer or anything but I beat him the majority of the time.

I do believe the benchmarks for the Air were performed with Flash installed. Therefore, not installing Flash gives you more battery life than specified if you're surfing most of the time.

Sorry for the wacky comment. Apparently it was saved along with my login last time I used 1password to store my credentials. Wish I knew how to delete it.

Big budget and impressive graphics for sure, but an "example of how experienced developers can do iOS games right".... not so sure.
This game gets quite boring very easily, same scenes but different weapons/armor/enemies just doesn't keep it interesting. Seeing the same scenes within 20 minutes is quite annoying, if anything it's a rather lazy effort.
Yes I know you die, and come back as the son out for revenge, but something tells me that that plot line was created to cover up for getting this rather small game out the door just to show off the rendering engine at the expense of a full gaming experience. Let's hope version two has plenty of large worlds to keep us entertained.

Completely agree Rudi. I bought this game for $6 because TUAW and other websites kept raving about the graphics. The graphics are great, but the overall the game sticks. It's very repetitive, there's really no story at all, you need to spend additional money for in game purchases to really get anywhere (which irritates me to no end), and it's very repetitive.

If you fight through the repetivness you'll never need to do any in app purchases.
