TiVo asks customers about live iPad streaming
As Engadget notes, TiVo has launched a survey asking current customers if they'd like to be able to "stream live TV, DVR recordings and TV shows from a cable company's On Demand library to one's iPad." The survey asks users how they would feel about about both streaming video from their TiVo while in their home with the TiVo unit, and also about how they would feel about streaming shows recorded on TiVo to their iPad over a broadband connection when they are out of their homes.
TiVo launched an iPad app in January of this year that allows users to browse program guides, schedule recordings and remotely control their TiVo. However, that app does not currently allow streaming. Engadget theorizes that iPad streaming could be TiVo's attempt to lure customers back to the device. TiVo stock has fallen more than 50 percent since last May as many people turn to their cable service providers for their DVR needs.

Streaming would be nice... but I don't know how useful it is, since the majority of content has the "do not copy" flag set.
The major channels don't often set the do not copy flag ( ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, USA, etc) but the rest of the cable channels seem to set it on everything ( HGTV, Sci, etc.)
Depending on what you watch, the do not copy flag which prevents TiVo from copying from one TiVo to another within the same house ( Multi-room Viewing) would also prevent you from streaming from one TiVo to an iPad within the same house.
Tivo needs to work on getting it's current products working right and also keeping older devices current. My Tivo Series 3 (which isn't that old) already can't use the newest features of the Premier series. And the existing software is still buggy as hell after several years. It crashes while playing downloaded Internet video. The Now Playing feature has a number of bugs in it, etc, etc.
In the many years that even Series 2 has been out, the basic software and features have remained static.
tivo really needs to stop worrying about "extras" and get basic functionality working with any sort of iptv/fiber. they are very quickly becoming obsolete.

The TV I have and analog cable work quite nicely together. When they all fail, I will upgrade to something else. My cable provider has a decent DVR, not sure I want to keep paying the TiVo tax each time they release new hardware. It's just not that compelling for me.

What I want to know is who takes these surveys and says "No, I don't think I'd like extra features available to me."
