iPad 2 online sales to begin at 1 AM PT tomorrow

Answering the eternal question "Do I need to stay up wicked late tonight/get up at the crack of crack tomorrow so I can get my iPad 2 order into the system as quickly as possible?", Apple has delivered a press release this morning with the details. Online orders will kick off at 1 AM Pacific Time tomorrow -- that's 4 AM on the East Coast of the US, and various other times around the globe.
Keep in mind that only US orders are starting tomorrow; wider international availability for iPad 2 begins on March 25, although if you have a US credit card and shipping address you can order from anywhere.
In-store availability for iPad 2 begins at 5 PM local time on Friday afternoon; in addition to the Apple stores, iPad sales will be ongoing at AT&T, Best Buy, Target, Verizon Wireless and Walmart stores as well as some Apple authorized resellers. Anyone buying their iPad at an Apple retail store will be offered free Personal Setup service, which includes email config and App Store registration -- you can use it on the way home.

I keep telling myself that I am not going to get pulled in by all the hype for iPad 2. I will wait for iPad 3. Wish me luck.
March 10 2011 at 9:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat exactly does 'local time' mean coming from an internet article?
It would've been much simpler to say PT or ET.
Think FedEx would deliver preorders on Saturday?

March 10 2011 at 6:11 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe Apple press release says 1700h EST. I phoned the Best Buy near me and they confirmed that you can't just ask for an iPad2 and get one. Everyone will have to wait until 1700h.
March 10 2011 at 5:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe Best Buy store by me is claiming they'll be available when the doors open on Friday. All you have to do is ask a blue shirt to bring one out of the back. They'll simply wait for 5pm to put them out on display and start the official sales.
March 10 2011 at 3:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPissed.
I just called the ATT store here in Roseville (CA) and they said they will NOT have the iPad 2 on launch tomorrow. They said they just got an email from their District Manager saying this area won't have them at ATT stores.
WTF? This area is chock full o people with wallets ready to spend. Seriously, this concerns me as to whether or not going to the A-store in the mall will yield results. LAME.
Bigger question is.. when will it be available at Amazon?
(no tax, free 2 day shipping or $3.99 next day)
Amen brother! Prim FTW
March 10 2011 at 5:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI just bought GarageBand from the french App Store on my 1G iPad.
March 10 2011 at 2:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYeah, me too! Except that I have the 2G version.
March 11 2011 at 1:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySince Apple no longer charges restocking fee, it seems the safest option is to pre-order at Friday 1 am PDT (about 14 hours to go) and stay in line at the nearest Apple Store.
