iPad shipment dates extend to 2-3 weeks

It's hard to believe, but Apple's online store shipment estimates for the iPad 2 are already at 2-3 weeks. The new device only went on sale today at 1:00 am PT, but already it seems that supply is going to be limited over the next few weeks at least.
If you're desperate to get your hands on an iPad 2 today (and you live in the U.S.), your best bet is to head out to your nearest Apple retail store and start queuing, if you haven't done so already. The iPad 2 will be on sale at Apple's retail stores at 5:00 pm local time.
The tablet is due for international release on the 25th of March.

Has anyone who ordered an engraved ipad2 received a shipping confirmation?
My iPad, which was bought at 4AM EST is now prepared for shipment now. As for my Smart Cover still not ready for shipment :(

March 12 2011 at 4:26 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySet the alarm for 4am, placed my order only to find out 3 hours later that my CC was declined even though I had called my CC 2 days earlier warning them to not restrict my CC that i was making a purchase through the apple store with date and time and amount ill be spending and still they marked it as suspicious activity when the order was placed. What point is it to have a CC if one cant use it. Too much security on CC and now it cost me about another week in receiving b/c i had to place the order again around 7am. Very frustrating!
March 11 2011 at 6:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat a bummer! Sorry for you! Loser CC company! I mistakenly ordered 2 and considered keeping them both but canceled one bec engraving message might have made it hard to sell.
March 11 2011 at 6:51 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPretty much the same, 64gb black wifi iPad with a stamp of 12:45am PST (I'm on the east coast, so that'd be 3:45am) and a black leather smart cover
Neither have shipped yet
iPad is saying 3-5 business days with 3/18-3/25 and the cover is 1-2 business days with 3/16 - 3/21 delivery
Same for me, my order confirmation is stamped at 12:56AM PST, 3G 64GB Black, no engraving, and shipping is in 3-5 days with delivery is btwn 3/18 and 3/25. The cover I bought with it already shipped (of course). Are there really people whose iPad portion of their orders have already shipped?
@Kevin - I live in LA, don't feel shafted at all. I was prepared to stay up until 1AM and luckily it was available before then. I'd rather stay up until 1AM than have to get up at 4AM on the East Coast. P.S. It's "woe is me", not "whoa is me", unless you're a horse.
It is likely that no order was processed before 1:02am. I placed mine at 12:30am pst and my confirmation says it was processed at 1:02. See below:

Ok I just got off the phone with Apple to find out why some folks who placed orders around the same time as I have already gotten shipment confirmations. The young lady said that engraved items will ship a little slower because they go through a slightly different process. Makes sense. Have any of you with engraved orders gotten a shipping confirmation for the iPad itself, rather than just the cover?
March 11 2011 at 4:10 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyEven though there are no Education discounts, ordering online from an Education-section of the Apple Store will get you first priority shipping.
March 11 2011 at 3:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replydarn! knew I should have signed into the government store :/
I'll hopefully remember that for the ipad 3 launch :D
Just got off the phone with Apple, they said my order shipped about an hour ago..hopefully it will be nice and quick..
Sorry for the double post, I messed something up.
All of us on the west coast got SHAFTED on this!! I cannot believe that Apple opened the store at 1:00am..normal people like myself, with a job are NOT UP AT 1:00AM...when I woke up at 6:00am to buy my new iPad2, I was shocked to see that I have to wait 2 TO 3 WEEKS...ARE YOU KIDDING ME, what a total joke!
Why did Apple not wait until there was a fair playing ground for all people, not just the east coast to get the new iPad with 3 to 5 Bus days??
I guess I will just have to live with my old, slow, heavy, thick legacy iPad for another 3 weeks...whoa is me..!!
Are you actually suggesting that "normal people" are up at 4 AM?
I set an alarm for 2:45 AM CT to order mine. You should have set an alarm for 12:45 AM PT to order yours.
Don't blame Apple for your laziness. They were probably primarily concerned with distributing server load, so their servers didn't go down.
You obviously didn't want an iPad that bad..
Folks on west coast had the advantage in my opinion. I set my alarm in NC for 3:30am! And you're complaining about 1am. Also, in my opinion:It's easier to stay up until 1am than to get up at 3 or 4 or 5am especially when i dont have to be at work until 9 or 10 and I live 4 mins from my job. That said, I'm glad you were able to place an order. Enjoy!
March 11 2011 at 4:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI was able to start my order about 3 minutes before 1:00am ( time according to web )..and my estimated delivery date is Thursday or Friday..my receipt said 3-5 days, I assume business days, so that seems about right. Got my confirmation email just about an hour later. There was a limit of 2 per purchase so I ordered 2 more with another account. These will be my first Ipads, so I did not go through the ordering process with the first one..
smooth so far, lets see if the deliver on time.
